Well, it's October 5 and sometime within the next 10 days we will be in our new home. TEN DAYS MAX are left...can you believe it?

MIL is finally coming around, after getting upset that I was so happy about getting this place, and we have collected all of BIL's furniture. Right now the house is cramped because there's stuff piled up all over the place, but it's dealable.

But the really amazing news.....(drumroll please).....some close friends of ours recently had a death in the family, and they have been slowly working their way through the houseful of furniture and other stuff. Anyhow, they heard DH and I talking about going to the Salvo to look for a kitchen set, and they said "we have one you're welcome to." Then they figured out that the complete bedroom set (including brand new mattress never been slept on), bookcases, desk, old-fashioned glider chairs, and an assortment of other stuff didn't have any family to claim it, so they offered that to us as well. I went over to see the furniture the other day, and it's gorgeous. I started crying I was so happy - this is easily thousands of dollars worth of furniture. They said, "don't be grateful - if the roles were reversed and we needed it and you had it, you'd give it to us." That just made me cry more.

There's still a bunch of stuff, like bakeware and towels and such, that we need to buy, but in the meantime, we are so blessed.

Yay!! Petra, I'm so happy for you and your family. That's amazing about the furniture!

Grrrr, though, the bitching post will be so much quieter. ;)
Maybe we can invite your BIL over once in awhile just so we can hear some funny stories.

LOL - I'll try to keep 'em coming in the bitching post - if I'm lucky DH will step up and I won't have to invite BIL over to get material ;)

Doing a *~*happy dance*~* for you!!! But I have to admit, I'm darn jealous about the furniture. Ours was given to us too--but there's a reason they didn't want it! Someday I'll have a home that doesn't look like a dorm room!

You have some awesome friends there, girlie! Can't wait to hear about how perfectly all the pieces fit in your new place! :o)

I'm going to put up a slideshow somewhere online once it's all finished - mostly for my family, who are too far away for quick visits, but I may show off my decorating talents here as well :)

ETA: This is also the first time I'm not working with a dorm room furniture theme, hopefully decorating with grown-up furniture won't confuse me too much :P

Yay! I'm doing a happy dance for you too! That's so exciting! You know what they say, what goes around comes around and you definitely deserve this! I can't wait to see how you decorate! We inherited a bedroom set from the 20's, a dining room table and chairs from around the same era, and then we have a bunch of Native American art, as well as other types of art (local artists). We have my futon from grad school, and some other assorted furniture we've picked up along the way. It all sort of goes together, but it would be so much fun if someone like you could come for a visit and rearrange all my furniture for me! :P I almost had a friend do it, but she moved to Arkansas before we got very far. :(

Anyway, keep us updated! I can't wait to hear the ultimate happy news! :)

I love rearranging furniture - I've been itching to do MIL's house, but she'd have a cow ;)

If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I may just break in and rearrange when you least expect it...

Which reminds me, how is that bar of cocoa soap?

Petra, there's a really great tool on hgtv.com for rearranging furniture. You put all the dimensions in of the room and furniture and then you can move it virtually *before* you have to actually do the physical work. You can even put in windows, doors (complete with the direction of swing and the hinge) and wall openings. I love this site and have used it for three of my rooms. My DH was SO thankful that I discovered it. Here's the link:

Just a little tip: when you right click on a piece of furniture, you can type in the dimensions. Be sure you click the box to lock the size, otherwise you can accidentally change it when you're moving the pieces around. ;) HTH!

I'm super, super excited about your new place and all the great free furniture! I know it's just going to be so wonderful for you and your family. Lots of happy dancing going on in my household right now! Best of luck to you!

That is so fantastic about the furniture and how close you are to moving!

Can't wait to hear all about it and maybe even see pics. :)

You're welcome at my house any time! If you ever feel like visiting DC, we're just a short drive away. :)

I really love using the cocoa soap, but even more, I like having it in the loufah bag! Parts of my skin are slowly getting smoother. When the cocoa soap is gone, I'm going to have to investigate for other handmade soaps from that place. You wouldn't happen to have a website for them? :P
