DD has been having some painful poops this week. The only thing we can figure out is that she's been drinking more milkthan usual. Could this be causing it?

In short: absolutely. Try to get more water into her to help.

Yup. My DD is a terrible eater, but loves her milk. When she turned two, we moved her down to skim and/or 2% and it helped a bit. But, if it was still a problem a splash of white grape juice in water helps. Thankfully, she drinks of ton of plain water too and it hasn't been much of a problem lately.

I think that's true of all dairy.

I always thought too much milk caused loose stools/diarrhea. Am I an idiot?

No, you're not! I think this is only when they already have an upset tummy....I know when DD had a fever they recommended to stay away from dairy, especially milk because of that and recomended the BRAT diet instead.
