Where do you put the dog's water dish so the baby can't get to it????

The dog stays in the kitchen, family room, laundry room area of the house. This is also where DS and I spend the majority of the day. Currently the dog's dish is in the laundry room. DS has discovered it. I can shut the door to the laundry room, but then the dog does not have access to it. If I leave the door open, it's a constant chase/battle with DS. I swear, I think he's part duck he loves water so much!! Anyone else have this problem? How did you solve it?

Linda,
We are in the same EXACT boat. DH is at wits end, b/c of how many times DS's been caught splashing Sascha's water. We just keep saying "no". We close off the kitchen for short periods of time when he can't be watched in there and the dog doesn't seem to notice. For the most part it only happens when we're in the kitchen and he remembers that it's there. Maybe close the Laundry Room for a little while and then he'll forget about it and you can open it up again. I wish I could tell you better, but I so feel your pain.

Pre-baby our dog's food and water was in the kitchen. Now, it's in a mud room two steps below the kitchen. As an infant, DD was often in the kitchen with us and it was a pain to monitor her because she was facinated by their bowls. Moving them helped a lot but did not resolve the issue completely. Now, she's pretty much outgrown her interest in them. Her art table is in the room where the food and water are now and occasionally she'll dump something in the water or transfer food from one dish to another but not that often.

I think out of sight, out of mind helps a lot but mostly it's just patience until they outgrow it.

We left it out; it wasn't fair to our dogs (one elderly) to restrict water that often. This is the bowl that we used - it is GREAT!!! No drowning hazard, and can't be dumped out. Plus, the opening is pretty small so the splash attraction is greatly diminished (but still plenty big for our cat, Labs and late Golden to drink out of it).

Lori(or anyone who might know),

Do you think this would work if it's raised off the floor 15 in.? We have our dog's bowls raised since she's so tall. I'd hate to spend $20 on this to find it won't work for her.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Lori,
That is perfect! It's just what I was hoping existed, but I couldn't find anything! Our four-legged child is a lab also, so anything that helps diminish the splash is a good thing!

Many thanks,

Depends on the size of your dog! It is a tall dish, and the dog needs to be able to reach around the huge lip (compared to a regular water dish, where they can reach the edge).

Okay. Thanks. I think it's worth a try. The poor dog hasn't gotten any new stuff in a long time....... At worst I'll have to find another shorter stand for the water bowl.

2nd recommendation for the buddy bowl. DS tips it on its side and moves it like a wheel, and not a single drop of water escapes. He can still get his hands in and splash and sometimes I need to change his top, but the water doesn't go on the floor. Best buy for us.
