Anyone been to one? How was it? I'm looking for a place to get some 6 month portraits of DD....I've never gotten any pro pics done of her! Seems like it might be better than Sears or Penneys. I'd love to hear your experiences!

Update....posted my pics on page 2 of this thread, I'm very pleased!

I had Adam's Christening portraits and his six-month portraits taken at portrait innovations. I was very pleased with the photos. BUT! There are a few things to keep in mind:

- Know what you want before you go. FOr example, for Adam's six-month photo, I wanted a simple shot of him sitting in his sailor suit with a plain white background. I am not a fan of fake nature backgrounds or those vomit-gray backgrounds like they use in school photos. Cutesy setups with props and the like are also just not my style - I wanted something simple. Make sure you explain what you want to the photographer before the photo shoot.

- Don't be suckered in to buying 18 different poses. Even if you tell then exactly what you want, thye'll do their damndest to make a huge sale - that's their job, after all. They will take dozens of adorable photographs of your little one, and they they'll try to sell them to you. You'll be vulnerable because the photos are, indeed, adorable, but again, unless you want to spend upwards of $300 on photos that you will never, ever use, KNOW WHAT YOU WANT and stick to your guns. Bring a friend for backup, if you have to.

- And, don't worry about leaving those adorable photos that you didn't want in the first place behind - everything at Portrait Innovations is digital, and you can buy the CD with all of the photos to email them at will. I suppose, not that I've ever done this *cough*, that you could also open those files in photoshop, resave them, and have extras printed at Wolf, but again, I would never do anything like that...

Good luck!

I've taken the girls there once. I was pretty happy with them. I find that they are very similar to Picture People. Your pics will be ready in an hour.

For those who've used the company, do they charge a sitting fee? What is the cost on the print sheets?

Maureen, where is the one here?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Portrait Innovations.

I have never had a problem with someone trying to upsell (had a brief "moment" with one but I set her straight). They have always listened to me and I have been extremely pleased with the results. I have never waited more than 20 minutes for my photos.

Good luck!

They always have this deal. There is never a sitting fee. Just be sure to ask for the "9.95 special".

Good to know!

I just had Payton's pics done at Sears today (his 2 year pics-- a little late!). My favorite photographer wasn't there. I never should have stayed once I knew she wasn't in. It took an hour to get 5 good shots.

Turns out there's one of these a lot closer-- we may have to try it for some Christmas shots just to see.

The thing I love the best is they just shoot so you wind up with a ton of photos to choose from. The camera is portable so the photographer can walk around and get the shot they want. It's great. They can also edit and crop the photo in case it is off center or needs to be cropped a bit. Their prices are very reasonable. I just love them.

That would have helped immensely today. He smiled everywhere *except* for in front of the camera.

I made an appt. for next Thursday morning. Assuming DD's nap schedule doesn't get all wonky and she's asleep at the appt. time, I will post the pics after we get them done! I kind of just want some simple timeless shots, nothing to seasonal or prop-y, you know? Hopefully it will work out well.

Andrea, it's across from Sprint, at 119th St. between Lamar and Glenwood, right by Wild Oats.

My SIL uses them for ALL her pics and she loves them. I think what she loves most is that the pics are ready in 1 hour. I found the prices to be kinda spendy, but that could be because I'm used to paying $5.99 for a sheet at Target.

They do have package deals though.

This was a hot topic on my twins club yahoo group a while back. Most of the moms were very happy with them but I think a few of us who went shortly after they opened were really given the high pressure sales pitch. I found it annoying and haven't been back since. That was about a year ago.

At the time I was there, the CD of pictures was only usable for sharing the pics via email and could not be used to reprint them. I believe they use a proprietary file format so the resolution is too low for reprints so you have to buy them there. I know this because I was going to use one as my holiday card and when I took it to Sam's they told me it wasn't usable. This was not made clear to me when I got the CD or I probably wouldn't have bought it or bought the package that included it. I don't know if this is still the case with the CD but just make sure you understand what you are getting.

HTH.

We had really good results there. DS hardly ever smiles for pictures (see avatar)- he is all business. When we went there, there were 3 staff members in our sitting, all trying to get him to smile. They worked really hard to get that smile, and it worked. He smiled big in a lot of the pics. I bought a TON of pictures- 7 poses, I think, and it only came out to around $100.

They were having a grand opening special, maybe they are not usually that cheap but I thought it was very reasonable and I was thrilled with the photos.

Just got back from our photo session and wanted to post what we ended up with! I am very happy, and lots of photos of these 4 poses came to $100, so not too bad for her first session!

She is so adorable! I am really impressed with those!

I didn't even know there was one of these close to us! We are going for our family shots in a couple of weeks. And great choice on the coordinating colors, I am trying to figure that out right now...
