laptop for 8 year old?

it's time for us to get new computers. i'm still trying to decide between the ibook and powerbook but it's either one of those.

however, for my 8 year old should i get her a 12 in ibook or should i just get an inexpensive dell?

Why not looked for a gently used iBook? For her needs a slightly older system would be fine. If you will have macs when she is older too, getting her used to that platform might be advisable. Of course, maybe it would be best to get whatever platform she uses at school?
