DS is very into the whole pirate, hidden treasure chest, castle thing right now. He would be so thrilled if I could find him a life size treasure chest to play with/store toys in. Unfortunately, the only thing I've been able to find are toy boxes that don't look like treasure chests, cedar chest type things that are rediculously (sp?) expensive and very small treasure chests (like what our dentist has to keep the prizes in for the kids after a cleaning). Has anyone seen a treaasure chest that would be appropriate for a 3 1/2 year old to play with, but big enough to be useful?

TIA,

I haven't seen it IRL, but I was thinking of getting this one from IKEA for DD to put dress up clothes in:

My older son also likes Pirates and Micheals (I was just there) has several little wooden boxes that oculd be decorated like pirate treasure.

I thought even putting masking tape over them in pieces ripped and placed all over and then shoe polish giving it a distressed leather look would be cute.

I think this is smaller than what you are thinking about, but coudl be a way to keep him happy with a pirate chest. I remember my older brother taking jars and filling them with things and hiding them outside for me. He took a stick and acted like it was motioning him where to go...so fun!!!! I was about 5 and remmber it well!!!!

Chocloate coins are at World Market if you need any!!!!

Oh and you can also glue jewels on these ones at Micheals!!!

We purchased our toy chest at one of the online retailers for $69 shipped. Of course, I can't remember which retailer it was. I do remember the chest was made by Badger Baskets. It's a full-size toy chest w/ a rounded top, just like a pirate's chest. Maybe you can find it by searching for the manufacturer or ebay. I probably found the deal on this site, so you might find it in an old thread - I think it was about 2 yrs ago.

HTH!

Try Kirklands, if you have one near you. That sort of thing is right up their alley, and I got my sister a small chest (about one foot square) there for Christmas a year or two ago.

Thank you all so much. I wish our IKEA was open already!! ARGHHHH!! I'll have to get my MIL to check out the IKEA chest -- I think it might be perfect for what I am looking for. I will definitely check out Michaels, Neve, and see if the boxes are close to what I'm looking for. Although I'm not super creative, if it is the right size, etc. I'm sure I could figure it out.

Thanks again!

That is so cool!! It's a little small for what I want it for, but for $4, I might have to get it as a rainy day activity and use it as a room accent. DS's room is decorated like a castle.

Thanks,
