We are having a family Christmas photo taken in a few weeks. Our little girl is 14 weeks old. Originally I was just going to have her photo made by herself, but DH wants us to have a family photo made at the same time.

I'm slightly stressed over this because I don't have a clue what we will wear! Any suggestions? Her dress is dark red. I would prefer a semi-casual look -- but really don't know what to wear.

I would appreciate any ideas.

depending on your coloring, maybe you and dh can both wear cream colored sweaters, they usually compliment red. It would also keep the focus on your dd!

We had the same dilema last week. Half the group didn't bring what they were supposed to, so we had to do a lot of scrambling before photo time. We ended up going with red, black and white. What DH and I ended up doing for ours was DD in a black top with red skirt, I was in a black skirt and shell with a red cardigan and DH wore a red sweater with black pants. So maybe DD would be in her red dress, and you could be in a black or cream top and DH could be in a red top with black pants. YOo could wear either a black or red skirt or pants.

I totally understand the slightly stressed feeling. It is so hard to get everything coordinated but it will look great when it is over.

Thanks for the suggestions! That gives me some ideas. Now I'm off to search our closets.

When we did this recently we didn't do the matchy thing, although some have with beautiful results (everyone in the same color top and pants, although not necessarily the same exact top--sweaters, button down, whatever).

We had DS in a striped shirt that has blue, green, red and orange in it. DH wore a blue button down and I wore a white shirt with a scarf that has green, blue, orange and red floral on it. DH and I both wore khakis.

When we had our first family photo taken, I wore a black dress, my husband a black suit, and Taran was wearing a red overall-type outfit. It worked out really well, because you noticed him a lot, but you still noticed our faces. In our second family photo, Taran's wearing a cream colored sweater, I'm wearing a grey sweater, and my husband is wearing a cream and grey sweater, which also worked really well. This year, both of the kids are going to be in green (Elowen a deep green dress and Taran a deep green sweater), and my husband and will probably wear something similar to that first picture. Whatever color(s) you ultimately decide on, I'd suggest that you and your husband try and match color-wise, since that's always worked best for us. :)

I would just try and stay away from true whites or black. creams or grays would probably look great

I like compliments... Baby in red and black, mom in a red shirt, dad in a black shirt...

We've done this and it turned out very nice!

I think avoiding patterns and keeping things simple is best. I wouldn't wear dark red so your daughter stands out amongst you but I think grays and cream sound good, or maybe a dark green.
