Gingerbread and eggnog lattes, yum! :)

Best thing about the season if you ask me. ;)

I honestly thought the eggnog one was kinda gross the last time I got one (which I think was a few years ago), but the gingerbread ones are good! I'll have to get a gingerbread one the next time I'm near a Starbucks. :) I do like eggnog though, I just don't seem to care for it mixed with coffee. Now mixed with cognac and some nutmeg on top... ;)

They have new Hershey kisses out with cherry cordial creme? I must find these at the grocery store! I love chocolate and cherries!

And yes! Peppermint drinks are yummy too. :) And peppermint ice cream - I just bought some of that today, it's only out at the time of year.

Caramel apple cider, ladies, its divine! Whipped cream is a must. It tends to burn the roof off one's mouth, but oh so worth it. Epithelium regenerates so fast, anyway!

DH loves eggnogg, I think its gross.

Eggnog has to be made well, and nothing you can buy in the dairy case is going to touch the good stuff. The good stuff requires lots of rum...and an old Cuban guy who makes it. Yummmmm.

I'm really boring and I drink the same drink everyday. My biggest change is from a grande latte to the occasional triple venti latte. That said... have you seen their advent calender? It has drawers with chocolate in it. I'm not saying that it makes a good "family tradition" one but as a temporary until I find my "dream" one, it will be perfect. I was pretty excited to see it last night.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but check out the nutrition information on some of their drinks! It's appalling the number of calories and sugar. Give me a regular coffee and let me add my own spices, milk, and artificial sweetener:

Mmmmmmm....peppermint mochas are my favorite. I know that you can get them all year round but somehow this time of the year is the only time they feel right to me.

I don't even want to look at the calories and fat - that will ruin the fun!

LOL! I'm hearing the music from a SNL skit--Debbie Downer. ;) That'd be like putting nutrition information cards in front of every dish on the table at Thanksgiving! Or a print-out before you eat a slice of birthday cake. I get maybe 2 or 3 during the few months they're out, so I'll pass on knowing exactly what I'm drinking.

Although you can get them with skim milk and sugar-free syrups if you are so inclined!

I agree. I'm a hot chocolate drinker myself, but I only order peppermint hot chocololate in the winter, mainly around Christmas. My standard order the rest of the year a is grande non-fat light whip hot chocolate. I figure the non-fat milk and the light whipped cream together give me something like 2%. Maybe not, but that's how I rationalize. :)

LOL ;)

We actually had a South Beach friendly Thanksgiving dinner last year and plan the same this year. The stuffing was mostly wild mushrooms, onion, and light pumpernickel. We had yams instead of white potatoes. For vegetable, we had my Mom's recipe for broccoli. (It includes a touch of lemon juice and green olives and is simple to prepare.) For cranberries, we had a low sugar version of my Mom's fresh cranberry raspberry relish. For dessert we had lowfat pumpkin cheesecake made with Splenda and crushed pecan crust.

It was nice having a good feast without the guilt and bloated feeling. :)

Actually, their nutrition thingy is really helpful. Anna's post about the pumpkin spice lattes, my fave, is actually NOT that bad if you get nonfat and no whip, which is the way I like my lattes anyway. 210 calories and no fat! If you want whole milk, no whip, it goes up to 9 grams of fat. Either way, yay!

It's the sugar I'm worried about. Thirty-seven grams of sugar in 12 ounces is quite excessive, IMO!

ETA: And that's for the "tall" size.

alkagift
11-12-2005, 10:05 PM
Oh, yeah, I don't look at that--I look at total calories and figure what I can spare. A lot of the sugar is in the milk, as well, and it's less than juice, which you probably avoid as well!

Well, I'm on phase 3, so I'll indulge occasionally, but only with light (lower sugar) juice. I've reached my goal weight, so technically a little on rare occasions doesn't sabotage anything. I just know what my body's limits are and really don't want to go beyond that. It's a lifestyle change, KWIM?

The sugar in the milk doesn't bug me so much, and skim milk is okay even in phase 1 of South Beach. Lactose isn't as refined as glucose, I suppose, plus drinking milk isn't consuming empty calories. :)

I'll take your portion of the fat and sugar ;) I don't like coffee anyway and caffeine does scary things to me! My summer starbucks drink is a vanilla bean blended creme - basically a vanilla milkshake - yumm!! Besides, with nursing an infant and chasing a toddler have a tough time keeping my weight UP and can use all the fat and sugar I can get :)

WOW! 65 pounds. That is great. Good for you!

I have the opposite problem--I have trouble keeping weight on. If I don't eat enough I get downright gaunt.

cmdunn1972
11-14-2005, 12:43 PM
I used to have that problem. I was really skinny growing up. After age 25, though, it just started creeping up.

It's hard when you were a skinny child to learn to handle a slowing metabolism as you age. You get used to being able to eat whatever you want without consequence, and old habits are hard to change.
