Our front room has cathedral ceilings and 2 bulbs just burnt out. We had them replaced when we had the room painted, so we've never had to do it ourselves. Do they sell something long that will reach up there?

I think they sell those really long ladders at Home Depot.

I think I've seen grippy claw things on a telescopic arm.

Go ask for THAT at Home Depot! :P

We actually have that grippy thingy ;) It's sold in the lighting section, but you need your own telescoping pole.

Thanks Jeanne & Lynne! Does it work for bulbs that are bigger than the standard size?

Mary, I'm pretty sure they make them for those wider bulbs (don't know the name) because we had one at a store I worked in.

Yes, they do. We bought one several years ago for changing floodlight bulbs outside along the roofline. I tried to do it by myself once when DH wasn't home and ended up not being able to control the really long pole very well. I broke the bulb in the socket and when DH came home, he found me in the driveway with a potato stuck in the gripper thing, trying fruitlessly to get the broken bulb out. It was quite a sight. :) We had an electrician coming a few days later for something else, so he got the bulb out. Now we only change them when several have blown and DH gets up on the ladder.

Not sure what to tell you on how to change them, but I'd recommend getting those halogen lightbulbs that are supposed to last for years...that way you won't have to do it again for a while!

LOL Isn't a potato a vegetable? I'd say you were trying 'vegetably to get the broken bulb out'.

Sorry--it's early. My humor's more off than usual. :D

Thanks for the visual! :D
