View Full Version : How / where do you make cheap, easy holiday cards?

OK, I'm ready to start our holiday cards. Have an idea for a photo at home with DS. Want cards to be cheap and easy.

Any recommendations on where to go? Last year I got folding cards at clubphoto.com, but they're a little spendy - almost $1 each.

I've seen the gorgeous compositions made here by some mamas -- where do you end up getting them printed/made?

Would it make sense to do mine at a place like Kinko's or order online?

Thanks a bunch, ladies!

ETA: DH just came back from Costco and they are down to 15¢ for 4x6.

Design your card for 4x6. Print it at Costco (15¢ each) and mail in an A6 envelope (4x6 fits perfect!) or insert it into a "standard" holiday card (this is what we do).

I think that Kodak is having a special today for 20 free cards. But I'm pretty sure it is a one day only deal. Not sure what else is available, most seem to be around $1 each or more.

HTH someone!

We paid $23 (including shipping) for 25 cards at shutterfly.com. I guess that's almost as bad ($.92/card), though. I liked that they had a wide variety of card to choose from, and I could just choose a photo from anywhere in my computer and upload it automatically, instead of Snapfish (which I usually use) where you have to create an album and upload your pictures first. We only have a small number of people to send cards to, though. The price per card does go down the more cards you order. And you can save 20% off your order of 50 or more cards if you order by Nov. 20.

This is the background we used:

I have never done photo cards before, so I wasn't feeling brave enough to attempt something as brilliant as what some of the ladies here have come up with. Maybe next year. :)

Costco or Sam's Club has really cheap options. Just upload and pick the borders.

If you make a photoshopped card, you just make it the size of a 4x6 or 5x7, upload to your favorite place, and print out. It's the same price as a regular picture.

Or you can buy blank cards from some craft store and just print out pictures (around $.16 each at Sam's or Costco), and attach them to the cards.

I like the design you picked.

I might end up just doing 4x6 photos as a previous poster said. I'm going to see how much photo-editing I can do in my existing software w/o buying photoshop.

My idea for the photo is to have DS with a string of Christmas lights, and the phrase "May your holidays be merry and bright!"

Now to find the right time to attempt the photo. : )

I wish I were a Sams or Costco member, but I don't like Sams and Costco is not in our area, so I'll need to look around for other options.

Thanks!

We used Photoworks. It was way less than $1 a card and now they have a 40% off code:

www.photoworks.com

We got this AFTER we ordered. Aggh! Anyhoo, the designs are pretty cool and the prices are really good...with the 40% discount it would have been even sweeter. And since you don't live in WA state, no sales tax.

Snapfish has great designs, but I think you have to register in order to see them. We used them last year and probably will again. Looks like they are more expensive than some others, but I thought they were worth every penny. Photoworks would be my second choice.

40% off? Wow, that is a good deal! That's a lot better than the 10% they offer on their site.

Thanks for sharing the code, they have some cute designs.

So happy shopping! I hope it works----they emailed it to me right after I bought cards but 2 friends have used it so its not unique or anything.

I used Shutterfly and Club Photo last year. Costco does a pretty decent job with their prints but I haven't checked out their Xmas cards offerings. I like simple designs that don't overpower the image.
