Yea!!! I got a job doing 3D/4D ultrasounds for this company that makes DVD, VHS & portrait packages of your unborn child!! I've been out of commission for so long I don't know what to do with myself. Luckily it's 2 evenings a week and saturday morning so I don't even have to get any childcare, my mom or MIL can watch the boys if DH is working. I'm soo excited, it's a bummer that I'm not pregnant so I could see baby in 4D. I can't wait to actually make my OWN $$. AND I still get to stay home all day with the boys.

I start training on the 3d/4D machine this Friday, I can't wait to talk to people that aren't related to me and over the age of 2!!!

WOOHOO! Congratulations! How exciting, it sounds like a super job.

Can I ask what degrees/experience you have to work with u/s? I have my bachelor's in Biology and Chemistry, and I've been itching to go back to school for radiology lately.

Cool! You get to be the one who reveals all those magic movies to to mommies and daddies! I don't think my brother really "got" that his wife was pregnant until the did a 4D ultrasound. Suddenly, he was a different guy, because suddenly that baby was real! My SIL had a TV playing the DVD in the background at her showers, and people just could not get over it.

Congratulations and have fun!

Thanks for all the congrats!! I'm soo excited and will post tomorrow night about my first day in training!!

Mariana, you can go to most community colleges to get an associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ultrasound). Some state colleges now offer it for a Bachelors. Before, you used to have to take Radiology and then cross train into DMS, but I think now you actually have to go thru a program. I don't have a degree in it b/c I went thru a excelerated program. Most programs are 2 yrs, but you have to have the pre-requisits & be on a waiting list to get into the program. I was 2 semesters away from an English degree, so I had no pre-reqs that applied to DMS, plus the waiting list at most of the schools here (I'm in the Cleveland, OH area) are about 1-2 years. The school that i went to gets you certified in 18 months. There is a school that you can transfer your credits to so that you can get a degree, but after you finish school you need to get registered as a sonographer. Once you are registered it doesn't really matter if you've got a degree in it or not.

I started the program the same week I got pregnant with DS1 (found out 1 mo into the program) I went the 1st 8 months and then took a break till I could rejoin when the class I left off was available again. The week I finished school (last Nov 04) I got pregnant with DS2 so I didn't join the work force till now.

I'm sure that you've got credits that will transfer over to count as some pre-req classes, but you need to actually go thru the DMS program itself. All anatomy and physiology you learn, you learn differently. You don't learn it looking into a body, you learn it like you are looking at the ultrasound monitor. Everything is backwards or flipped. In a program you will learn vascular, abdominal, breasts & ob/gyn.

Since I've been out of ultrasound since last winter it's harder to get a job, but I am almost registered. You HAVE to take a physics exam & 1 specialty exam to get registered. I am in the process of studying/sending in the application to take my OB/GYN exam.

Radiology programs are different than Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ultra) programs. Radiology is for xrays & mammograms. DMS is ultrasound only.

I hope that helps, I love school so I'm thinking of going back sometime in the future to finish my bachelors in English. It really won't get me anywhere, but I kinda want a degree in something :)
