Y'all suggest bringing a new toy for airplane rides. Any favorites you can recommend?
Would the finger puppets from Expressive toys be good? (I just ordered them) Thanks!

Maybe a play scarf?

I'm trying to think of quiet and easily packable toys. This is our first plane trip and I'm soooooo stressed out. Not to mention we'll be staying at DH's parents 2 bedroom condo with MIL, FIL, SIL, BIL and their 2 DD's, DH, me and DD. (They all live by us but the Parent IL's are in FL for the winter).

Anything that your DD is likely to enjoy will be fine. At her age, you can also consider putting some toys away between now and your trip and then bringing them out on the plane - they will be just like new!

Finger puppets sounds fun although my DD isn't particularly interested yet.

I'll be surprised if you need a whole lot of stuff considering your DDs age - many kids that age are still happy to just hang with mom and dad, doing fingerplays, etc. Plane travel with my kids has generally been a breeze - try not to stress too hard!

Thanks Laurel! I feel a little "dense"...what's fingerplays? Like itsy bitsy spider? I only really know that one. Any other ones?

Yep, just like the itsy bitsy spider. Other ones are pat-a-cake, five little monkeys, the wheels on the bus, basically any song you have actions for. I think there was a thread on this in the lounge recently if you do a search.

Yes, I agree with Laurel. At that age, Kaya was perfectly happy with being with us and eating the foods we brought with us (frozen peas and plain tofu). Fast forward to 20 months old and she drove us nuts! ;)

If you think about what you do with your daughter right now on a daily basis, you'll be able to figure out which things would most likely interest her. :)

Good luck on the trip! We're leaving for FL in a couple weeks and hope it'll be 10x's better than our trip to CA was! (2 hours vs. 8!)

Eileen - good luck on your trip too!

Do you actually bring the peas frozen in a baggie or something?

W/ foods, unfortunately she doesn't really "do" finger foods yet, but we're practicing. Banana's is about all she'll put in her mouth...sometimes. Peas she just plays w/, but i guess that's ok. Cheerios she gags on. Plus she seems to be pretty food allergic (we see the allergist today) so i'm afraid to try anything new until we come back.

If she's not doing finger foods, just bring your usual foods. Obviously finger foods can be a nice distraction and are easier than purees, but any food is fine. :)
