Do I freak and worry or just let her be. Anna-my not so great sleeper has been turning onto her belly to sleep this way. I try to turn her head to one side and she turns it back. Do I worry? Or just let her be. She has very strong neck and abdominal muscles but I worry about her breathing right into the mattress and well....

I would let her be, especially if she's strong enough to turn her head every time you move it to the side. FWIW, both Nate and Rose have slept this way on occasion.

Thanks Caroline. Now I can go to bed myself. :-)

I would just let her be too, Barbara. I know it is easier said than done though. My DS used to do the same thing, and I used to wonder how he could possibly sleep, but somehow he did. DS was even younger than your daughter when he started. I checked on him many, many times at first until I decided to let him be. Eventually he stopped sleeping with his face directly down, even though he continued to sleep on his stomach. Incidently, my DS was not and he isn't a great sleeper either.
Wishing you sleep,

Claudia

I would let her be. DS also did this, though I don't think he started quite this young. Don't know why they do this since I can't imagine it being very comfortable to sleep on your face.

It would freak me out, too. What about getting one of those eggcrate mattress pads? I had one after my knee surgery. LOVED that thing!

Yeah-it sure doesn't look very comfy. You'd think your face would feel kind of mushed.

She eventually turned her head-I checked on her a bunch of times before I fell asleep. It just looks so uncomfortable. Not to mention the SIDS worry. She is now back to sleeping like a dream.

She seems okay for now. But can you imagine sleeping face down? Imagine the pillow creases you'd wake up with?
