View Full Version : Well, we got one . . .

Over Thanksgiving weekend, we had a family photograph taken with my mom, dad, brother, dh, kids, and me. I was so excited about it and had planned for it for a while (and agonized about clothes, etc.). By the time the day came up, I was dreading it. The weather was cold, my kids were cranky . . . the photo shoot went horribly. It was barely more than 30 degrees outside, and this photographer's outdoor stuff is wonderful--that's why we booked her. My dad was not happy about being out in the cold, my kids didn't want to wear their sweaters. Joshua started fussing as soon as we sat him down. She only got a few shots off, and I thought "what a waste of money". We didn't get a chance to do a family photo of just the 4 of us as I had hoped for a picture of just the boys together.

BUT, this woman must be miracle worker. We did get 1 good shot of the whole group. I do wish the boys were smiling (and that Joshua's jeans were pulled down to cover his legs), but I can't complain. Especially given the misery that was going around that day for whatever reason.

So, no family of 4 shot for a holiday card, but we do have a 3 generation family portrait for the wall. I'm thinking about ordering an 11 X 14. Does that sound about right?

what a wonderful photo of the family! Well worth it, I think! :) I would definitely get a big print of it.

It looks great, Lisa!
For people that were complaining, you guys have great smiles and look happy.
Your post made me laugh because we did the same thing at my sister in law's house and there were a few complains too.
I am not really good at sizes, maybe someone else can tell you about that.

Just wanted to say I love your picture, I'm getting the idea to attempt one with my parents later this month :)

Lisa, I totally remember you agonizing over the clothes in RL. It was worth it, though, because OMG do you guys look fantastic. That is a wonderful picture that will definitely be cherished. 11 X 14 sounds like the perfect size. Heck, maybe even bigger :)

Wow, that's pretty awesome! I love how you coordinated the outfits of the two boys and had them stand out. It looks perfect! And I'm amazed at how much you resemble your mom--you both look beautiful!

I would say go at least 11x14, possibly larger. It depends on where you want to display it. I would go larger if you were going to put it over the fireplace.

Taht's a really nice picture. I can understand being bummed that the boys aren't smiling, but they both look really friendly vs. grumpy, which is definitely good.

Unlike PP, I think an 11x14 is awfully big - sort of like a poster. If you want a big beautiful object for say over the fire place, then yes, go for it, but otherwise 8x10 is still pretty large.

Just my two cents.

That shot is great!! I can't imagine trying to get a good shot with all those people and two toddlers to boot.

Sorry you didn't get your family/boys ones. I know it stinks......

Lisa, that is a fabulous picture! If ours turns out this great, I will be jumping for joy! BTW, I never would have noticed Joshua's jeans above his socks if you hadn't mentioned it! I was too busy looking at everyone's beautiful faces! :)

You guys are too kind! Thank to all for the nice comments! I didn't expect to get so many responses to a "frivolous" post. They made my day (considering I'm sitting here with a stuffed nose and a sore throat, and 1 1/2 sick kids--Jack's just a little sick). I guess there a lot of picture people on the boards like me--I just love pictures/portraits.

Alaina--LOL--who haven't you met, my brother?

Lana--good luck with your portrait. Let us know (and see!) how it comes out. Did you make a final decision on clothes?

Eri--definitely give it a try. What have you to got to lose (except money, right)?

Claudia: did the one taken at your SIL's wind up working out?

Jerilyn: yep, people do tell us that all the time. When I was younger, it was "Are you sisters? Clones?" IRL, I think I look like a mix of my parents. More like my mom, but with my dad's blue eyes.

I THINK I'll go 11 X 14. We have two "fake" gas fireplaces, but right now, there is something above each. I could move them, but I think I won't. If I have my side of the family up, dh's side might feel a little funny. Of course, we could always try to plan a portrait with them. DH's parents hate being in pictures, and we'd be dealing with a total of 10 people (instead of 7) including 4 kids (instead of 2). I'd need a drink before taking that on!!
