I'm sorry, I know there was a thread not long ago but I cannot remember where!

We had a very quick family "picture" done when DS was 10 months old. It was through our church so while the photo actually came out quite nicely, the photographers were volunteers and not necessarily professionals.

DS is now 18 months old and I have scheduled an appointment to have HIM photographed early next week. Now I'm thinking this might be a good time to have a new photo taken of the family, too. I remember reading about families who dress in white shirts and either khaki or denim bottoms. That's something we're likely to do later; this time I really want DS to be the focus and I'm not sure how we should all dress. He looks great in the same colors that my husband and I favor (navy, brown, cream, rust, etc.) and I want so much for these to come out well!

Is this making any sense?! Thanks for reading this far!

My mom sent me this when we were planning our family portrait awhile back. There are some good ideas there:

While I'm not personally a fan of the white shirt and jeans/khakis combo, I do think you should dress in similar colors or colors that complement each other. I think you can make DS the focus more by the poses you do...keeping him front and center and all.

You'll have to share the portrait with us once you get in done!

Thank you for sharing the link!

I definitely want our clothing to complement/blend. Since it's winter and we're expecting 10 inches of snow in the next 18 hours, I cannot imagine dressing in anything other than layers and layers of clothing! Alas, I'm sure a proper neckline would be more appropriate :-)

If you should have any more advice, I would love to hear it!

For our pictures on Saturday we are all wearing dark jeans. I am wearing a red brick colored blouse, DH is wearing a beige sweater and DD is wearing a matching striped argyle cardigan. I am hoping they turn out o.k. Almost everything I've read says to stick with solids, but I want DD to stand out.
Good luck to you. It was very hard for me to come up with clothes. I have been getting matching shirts together for the last month.
My sister, DD and I had our pictures taken 2 weeks ago and they turned out o.k. (I am wearing red in this one too, lol)

Had to add this one, it isn't her holiday pic, but I couldn't resist buying one sheet when I saw it.

Here's what we wore last week:

Colors that compliment each other, ya' know? In this case, we picked a colorful (enough) sweater for Payton and shirts for us that went with it-- red for me, dark blue and black check (hard to see that) for DH.

There's a second pic attached, but didn't want to make the post too huge.

Hey--it's nice to see you mommies. You look great! Nice pictures, too! : )

I posted a link with my recent (extended family) portrait a few days go. I think it's a page or two down. It was entitled: "We got one".

The adults wore dark brown sweaters, and the kids wore wheat-colored sweaters with subtly patterned collared shirts underneath.

We were really pleased with our holiday pictures this year. DD and DS wore Gymbo sweaters. DD's was the cranberry colored turtleneck, and DS wore the cranberry sweater with cream and black stripes. Since DH & I are on the chunky side, we both wore black sweaters. The kids just POPPED in the picture, and we didn't look quite as chunky. :)

I think we'll be doing something similar in the future to make sure the kids are the focal point of the picture.

That being said, the best family pic I ever saw was of my sister's family. They all wore black turtlenecks and it looked great.

Thank you all for sharing your beautiful family photos! I was afraid that a turtleneck or sweater would look too *wintry* but I see that it can look great! Maybe I'll have to dig through his closet when DS gets up from his nap...

Any other photos or tips you would all like to share?

I heard that jeans and a dark shirt are the best for black and whites.
