Somehow and I have NO IDEA how this happened, I posted an auction with free shipping. I did NOT mean to do this, especially as it sold for $1 and to ship it for free means I'd have to go into the hole to do it. My other auction, posted at the same time, had Priority Mail shipping. It must have been some eBay default. Is there any way to get out of this?!?

I would go in and alter the auction before someone bids on it. Once it's bid on, you can't change it.

ETA: Sorry. I didn't read thoroughly enough. Didn't get that the auction had ended already!

I'd email the buyer and simply state that you made an error in the listing. Let them know the real shipping cost, and give them a chance to back out of the purchase if they no longer want the item.

They might be a little upset, but I think they will understand that you didn't intend to lose money on shipping like that.

I'd probably ship for free -- not buyer's fault there was a mistake. How much will it be to ship?

i would email them and let them know of the mistake. maybe there is an off chance that they will offer to pay for shipping. otherwise i would ship it an just take my loss. i would not demand that they pay for shipping or you wont send it unless you are ok with having bad feedback :(

Yeah, depending on how much it would be to ship, I'd probably just eat the error. I remember listing (almost brand new) prefolds a while back for $1 each on the swaps, and figured, eh, no problem. I did $12 ppd, not realizing how heavy prefolds were. I think it cost around $11 bucks to ship (I didn't realize I could go cheaper with UPS or FED-EX). I just ate the error, since it was my mistake.

Unfortunately, I think you're stuck. The policy on eBay states that you are contractually obligated to meet the terms that are laid out in your item listing. You could get your account suspended if your buyer complains; even though it was an honest mistake on your part, you've got to admit that it looks bad to change things at this point.

Sorry! I know this stinks. :(

I emailed the buyer and she said that she wouldn't pay for shipping but said that I "should refund the money paid to me indicating that the item is no longer available for sell as listed. Then I can relist with the correct information." Can I do that? Ugh. I just hate to have to spend $4 to ship an item when I only got $1 on it, KWIM?

Wouldn't you end up losing the original listing fees and final selling fees as well? ETA: Then you'd also pay to relist it. It might be the same in the end if you shipped it instead.

I'd just go ahead and ship it. Saving 4 dollars isn't worth damaging your feedback. Consider it a lesson learned (and thankfully a rather cheap one!)

FWIW, there are a lot of unethical sellers on eBay, and you definitely don't want to be assumed to be one of them!

This is exactly what I was thinking all the fees you will end up paying will be about the same as probably just shipping the item.

I was thinking the same thing. If it's just a few bucks to send I'd chalk it up as a learning experience.
