Okay, folks, here's my card (mad props to Rashmi and everyone else who have posted Elements tutorials):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/tanulewicz/Xmascard2005copy.jpg

I'm pretty much fine with the overall look of the card. I'd like to add some snowflakes on the background, but I'm hunky-dory with no snowflakes. I just want something simple to send out to our friends and family.

My main concern is whether or not the card is big enough to be printed out 4x6.

Thank you!

Excellent job!
What is the actual size of your card? That will determine if it is print quality and what size.

Wow, very nice! No, I don't think you need anything else. But if you really want a snowflake, I might separate the quote with your names with a single snowflake. But again, I don't think it's necessary at all!

And yes, the pixel size of your card will determine whether it's large enough to be printed out as 4x6. Ideally, you want 300 pixels per inch for length and width. So a 4x6 card should be at least 1200x1800 pixels.

Y'all are divine!

I set the canvas size to be 4x6, but I just checked the pixel size and it was 288x432 pixels. When I resized it to be 300 pixels/inch, the whole thing was huge, but pixelated.

I'm kind of perplexed, because the original photo is pretty big - it's 311 pixels/inch. Hmm. Should I start all over with the whole thing? I'm glad y'all like the design - I'm unsure about the snowflake, and my design philosophy is when in doubt, do without.

When you created the original canvas size to be 4x6", did you also make sure you made the resolution 300 pixels per inch? I think the default is only 72. If you didn't make it 300 pixes/inch, then yes, I'd redo it.

By the way, what font did you use? I really like it!

Yep.. start over!
Start with a blank image of 1200x1800 (4x6) like Eileen mentioned and add in all the components!

Simple is best! Not that you asked, but you could go a touch darker in the background blue.. it wil make the text a little easier to read! Good luck!

Edited because I am dumb and was trying to select from the histogram layer that I used to lighten the photo. Nevermind!

Eileen - the font is Pristina, and I used the soft edge effect on both the text and the photo to set it apart from the background.

Here it is:

I tried making the background a darker blue, but it did something ugly to the drop shadows when I changed the color.

Do you have a color printer at home? When I was doing the calendar, I test printed some of the pages to make sure that the colors were what I was seeing on the screen. I had an ivory color (on the screen) but it printed out more yellow. And so I switched to a pale green and even though it looked pale on the screen, it was still pretty dark. You could try doing the same thing if you have a printer. It may be that this pale blue is dark enough. In any case, it's a beautiful card! Awesome job! I'll have to look for the Pristina font because I don't think I have it.
