Look up the following for me?

LG Dishwasher Model #LDS5811BB

The guy at Best Buy was a big fan of these and it looks pretty nice to us.

Thanks!

Thanks Heather. It's kind of weird that this says there's no child-lock (there is because we saw it). It's also supposed to be have an energy star rating? At least there was an energy star sticker on the washer in the store.

The Energy Star rating is kind of a funny one. The manufacturer can use any combination of settings to qualify for being energy star compliant or certified. It may be that with the heat-dry feature disabled and the lightest wash setting (china or quick clean) activated that it actually does use less energy, and water consumption only has to be less than the H2O-guzzling predecessors of yesteryear. There is a certain maximum, and anything below that (even though Consumer Reports' test says it used more water than other comparable models) is considered "efficient."
ETA link for http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=dishwash.pr_dishwashers so you can check it out for yourself.

Also, when d/w's have sensor-clean features, they often use more water than on a standard cycle. When manufacturers test their models for water consumption, they run a load of clean dishes. Consumer Reports often points out that they use a load of soiled dishes, and with the sensor clean it can force the cycle to be longer to get off the food particles, so often that explains the discrepancy between manufacturers' claims and the CR results.

It does sound like a great dishwasher, although I'm no big fan of LG (but perhaps I remember the company from when it didn't manufacture such reliable products). At first I was going to say the absence of a lockout feature makes it a no-go, but if it's got it, it sounds like a good find for the price-point.

Thanks Larissa! We did end up getting it at BestBuy where we were able to save a bit more because I found an online price (including shipping) that was cheaper. Plus we got free shipping (with rebate) and free installation (Best Buy's special) AND I got one of their reward cards for $10 and because we bought the washer and camera bag, etc., we ended up getting $50 back from that. So all in all, a great deal. And yes, it definitely has a lockout feature, which was super important to me. That and we can adjust the top rack (two positions) to have more or less room on the bottom.

Just in case, though, DH and I did opt for the warranty plan, just because I've heard too many stories (and not just on LGs, but on all the brands) of their d/w having a leak or something like that. For us, we decided it was a good investment.

I think Consumer Reports only lists if there is a door lock - that is you can't open the door at all. Most if not all diswashers now have a control lock which prevents the kids from messing with the settings, but few have a door lock.

Hey, congrats on your new d/w. I completely did not look at the date of the post, so sorry if all that came a day late and a dollar short. I think you'll be very happy w/ your purchase, as I did some more reading on LG last night and it seems they're coming up in quality.

Mainly, I just wanted to pass on the energy star info.

Congrats again and good eye on the pricematch and warranty!

Well, apparently, if you lock the controls, you also lock the door; at least that's what the guy at the store said. He said it was a better way of locking the door (vs. a manual latch). I guess I will find out for sure!
