View Full Version : Kids falling from changing tables

OK, so I've been a mother for almost four years. In that time, each of my children has fallen off the changing table once (today being one of those days). The girls were fine each time. Both times, I was standing right there, but looking the other way. DH, who probably does about 80% less diaper changes than me, was very accusatory towards me today, outright saying "But this is the SECOND time." So, I ask you, does two falls in four years sound like a bad track record? Give me a break.

Karen,

You do not have a bad track record. You are a normal mother. We've all had things like this happen. You take your eyes off them for just one second...

Maybe your DH would like to take over all diaper changes when he is home?

HA HA HA HA HA HA. just tell your darn DH that he is WELCOME to take over ALL the changes so that HE can keep them safe from their CRAAAAAAAAAAAZY mother who is clearly doing a terrible job parenting.

teasing you because i have actually met you. silly dh. second time my fanny... like he hasn't ever made a mistake when you weren't looking...

If your house is anything like mine I would say since you change the diapers more often so you are far more likely to have something like this happen than he is. I would say his accusatory was not warranted in this case. :P
FWIW, my DD has taken two "trips" off the changing table, both on my watch. DH tried to give me a hard time, but after changing her more that three times in a row stopped harrassing me. :) He does change diapers! But not more than two in a row usually. And is incapable of keeping track/checking when her dipe needs changed.

Yup. Sounds like your DH is clearly more capable than you are to change diapers. It also sounds like he has volunteered himself to oversea that area now. Wow. How lucky are you to have a DH so committed to safety! ::::rolling my eyes:::: Twice in 4 years is a great record! If he mentions it again I say he has to change diapers all day!

Agree with all PP--your DH definitely needs to do more diaper changes! :) Kaya rolled off the changing table at around 5 or 6 months and the changing pad is permanently on the floor now. Actually, she also rolled off one of those changing tables in the Airplane bathroom when DH was changing her, but fortunately, he caught her. She was really scared though! Anyway, I'm hopeful that at least at home, our next baby will not go off the changing table because the changing pad will be on the floor from the get-go!

Most of DS's bumps and bruises have occurred on my watch (which isn't hard since I'm a SAHM and also am in charge for at least 75% of every weekend), although we've never had a dive off the changing table (but plenty of other falls).

The only time my DH said anything negative to me, I told him I assumed that meant he was taking charge for the rest of the day. Since he had "things to do" (and usually does) that was the last time he said anything negative about how well I was keeping DS safe.

Aww, don't feel bad. You're a wonderful mommy who's having an unlucky day.

Hey listen--you know how insurance companies say that 80% of car accidents occur within a 10 mile radius of of home? I never understood the point of that statistic being so talked about--we mostly ARE within 10 miles of our homes. So that's where the accidents are going to happen. A perfect parallel to why children get hurt more often under the watch of SAHPs.

wow, with all the harm you are causing your girls maybe he should do all the diaper changing in your house ;)

my boys have fallen from different things over the years and im sure there have been more then 2 accidents. imo you are doing better then me :)
