Just a little update. I spoke with J yesterday and really do not have much to add onto what she already posted. Natalie is still quite lethargic ~ takes sooo long to wake her up for feedings. Her monitors are still going off several times a night so sleep is at a premium but they are sooooo happy.
I DID want to add one thing that didn't make it into her post. This didn't surprise me b/c I know J and her strength is soooooo apparent, but it will give you even more insight into Jera's and Natalie's strength and determination (you know how strong they are already). :) Jera was talking with a NICU nutritionist, who has over 11 years of experience on that unit. She was saying that, as far as she can remember, Natalie is the FIRST baby born more than 8 weeks premature to be discharged solely on a nursing regimen!!! She was saying that the babies are discharged on the bottle and that WITH A LOT OF HARD WORK it generally takes about 9 months after discharge (usually 9 months corrected age) for the babies to be nursing solely and routinely. THAT number blew my mind! Another thing that is extraordinary is that Natalie was in one of the largest NICU's in the COUNTRY, which means that this nutritionist has seen A LOT of babies!! Jera says that a lot of luck and timing came into play BUT that is just Jera...she doesn't see what an amazing woman and mother she is.
Happy 2006!! :)
ETA: Thanks to your generous contributions, they are STILL getting meals through the personal chef!! You girls are AWESOME!!
