I am so, so, so frustrated. After spending hours at the mall yesterday looking for pants, I came home (again) with absolutely nothing. I can not find a pair of pants that fits me to save my life. I am alternate between the same two pairs of unattractive, unstylish pants that I have been wearing for a couple of years. I am a complete and total pear. If the waist fits, my hips are busting outta the seams. If the hips fit, there is enough room in the waist for another person to jump in with me. When the fashion was pleats, I at least had a chance of finding something to fit (because of the extra room from the pleats). Now that everything stylish is flat-front, I am outta luck. Anyone have any name brand suggestions for me? I am desperate...please help!

Okay, I am going to reply to my own post, because I meant to put this in the original.

In the hopes that I can help someone, I have found an answer to my jeans dilemma. Target.com does custom made clothing. I have bought a pair of jeans this way, and it was a godsend. I will never, ever buy another pair of jeans any other way. They are the best fitting jeans I have had in years, and I have even gotten compliments on them from some of my fashionista friends. Not only that, they are affordable. I can't rave about them and this service enough!

On a related note, Target also does custom made chinos. I have a pair of these as well, but I'm not as thrilled with them as I am with the jeans. I don't know if it's the style I picked or what, but I just feel dowdy when I wear them. The fabric is very light weight, and there seemed to be a lot of shrinkage in the length when I washed them. Just in case anyone is interested.

I have big hips and thighs compared to my waist and have good luck with JJill.

Wow! Custom jeans from target sounds perfect-was this something they do online, and what was the price range?
Thanks so much!

Hoping for more suggestions.... would love to hear something about chinos or Dockers-style pants... (Have some old Dockers that fit, but the ones they make now don't fit as well!)

I'm in the market for new pants, and have decided to not spend the money on any more that don't fit. But, where to find some that do?

I am not pear shaped, BUT on a local TV morning show, they were featuring a new line of Jeans for pear shaped women. You can buy online I think and at Macy's. They have other stores listed on their website. The jeans looked great on all of the models and were classic and trendy styles. Hope this helps.

I believe the Gap sells jeans now that are cut Curvy or Straight. I think there's an another cut that falls somewhere in between too. Check it out at gap.com

Have you tried something with a bit of a low-rise? I don't have a real small waist but do have pretty substantial hips and a pooch and low-rise has worked great for me. If you're looking for slacks, I found some great ones at Ann Taylor that were just a little below the waist but they fit great and looked awesome. And as much as I hated feeling so old when I shopped there, American Eagle stretch jeans were the best for me.

I think you have to watch out when pants fit a small waist and larger hips that you don't get the "mom jeans" looks. If they are fitted like this, I'd make sure they are full through the thighs and boot-cut so that you have a long, clean line and don't accentuate your hips.

Yes, the custom clothes at Target can be done online...actually, I think that may be the only way to do it. The price for jeans was $36.99, and then I think shipping was somewhere around $7 or $8. Totally worth it to me. To find, go to Target.com, then "Women", and then scroll about halfway down. On the left side there will be a listing for "Custom Clothing".

I really can't tell you how happy I am with mine! Truly a godsend when your waist and hips are different sizes.

I totally understand. I have the same problem. I second trying to find a low rise, but not too low, pair of pants. If they are too low rise, I find that I am constantly pulling them up, and thats almost as annoying as having the waist two sizes too big.

My favorite pair of jeans are Ralph Lauren's Saturday Jeans. The fit high on the hip, not the waist. With them I don't have the gapping problem at the waist nor the feeling that I look like a plumber (no offense meant:-). I think they have them in straight leg and boot cut. I have also found them for around $20 at the outlets.

I just wanted to update everyone, in case this can be of any use to anyone else.

One of my friends suggested I try Talbots. I did, and had some fairly decent success. I got three different styles of dress pants. They are not super trendy or stylish, more what I would call "classic" or "timeless", but that's okay for me. As long as they fit and look fairly decent, but not too "old ladyish", they work in my book. Here are some links (I think these are the right links, but no promoises- it is hard to tell for sure from the pictures if these are the ones I bought in the store):

They also had some twill/chino pants that I tried on, and that fit pretty decently. I didn't buy any, but I am keeping this in my mind for further reference:

So anyway, hope this helps someone. If you have a Talbots nearby, check it out.

Lands End does custom chinos. FWIW. No personal experience.
