i was brushing my teeth this morning when i heard a loud crash. my younger ds had pulled over our corner shelf in our dining area. he is fine and dh is stopping on the way home to get a wall anchor. my old 1976 sears frog container didnt fare to well, it is in a bunch of little pieces :( i was hysterical on the phone(just ask seekermage!). she was so wonderful to find the replacement on ebay. um, ok now look at the price! i just had one from the set and got if for like a $1.50 at a thrift shop or antique shop somewhere. i do collect frogs so i would love the set. the one i had was from 76, it looks like they made them in 76,77,78,&79. i would want the 76 ones again as the frogs are different on the top from year to year except it looks as if 76&79 may be the same. i was also born in 76 so it would be neat to stay with the one from the year i was born :) i just dont know if i can bring myself to spend what she is asking. i did email her about the year and i almost hope that she says it is from 79 so that i would have an easier time saying no(even though they are identicle). i just cant see spending $75.00 to replace something that i paid $1.50 for. i do love it and it was my all time favorite frog find. im just scared that i will make a rash decision in the heat of the moment. my mom suggest scouting out antique shops untill i find it and hope that they dont know that they sell for so much more elsewhere. i think that is a long shot, i have never seen them anywhere else except for the listing that seekermage found on ebay for me. please, what would you do? christy, are you out there???? ;)

Okay, if this was my decision, I would say to BUY IT !! :)

First of all, you are getting a complete set.
Second, you are getting a set from 1976. (the year that you
are wanting!)

Really, what are the chances of you ever finding this set
or even just one container in another thrift store?
Probably very slim.

Actually, when you think about it, what are the chances
of another 1976 complete set being available on Ebay,
for that matter?

I look at it like this. Is the $75 going to break the bank? No
And are these frog containers going to look absolutely awesome
in my house? Yes

I'm gonna have to say, BUY THEM!! :)

I'd probably get it. Some things are worth replacing.

Is this the same? There are 2 on this page that leads to e-bay auctions: http://stores.ebay.com/Flower-Frogs-R-Us_Dinner-Table-Stuff_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm

I tend to be cheap about things like this so I'd probably not get it, then kick myself for weeks that I didn't get it, lol! You can always search on ebay and set it up to e-mail you when new items matching the description are added. I searched "sears frog canister" and got these
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=sears+frog+canister currently - all the rest are cheaper than the original listed. That way if you really don't want to spend so much right now you can watch what comes up in the future and bid on ones with a cheaper starting price?

Here's another with no pic but the BIN is $10
http://cgi.ebay.com/Neal-The-Frog-Canister-Small_W0QQitemZ6238968309QQcategoryZ38135QQssPageN ameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And here are the results if you search "neil the frog"

Good luck!

I know! :)

I just figure that you only live once and if these frog
cannisters make you happy, then why not? :)

OOOH that is a really hard one!!!

I would say no, just because that just seems like a lot of $ to me. I think the most I've spent on any frog thing is $45 and I REALLY wanted it.

But if you can afford it then I say go for it. Especially if its the right year and you really loved it.

It is really cute though there is no way I could ever afford it! LOL! She wants $125 for the buy it now price, ack!!

Maybe one of the auctions that Lynne listed might be better, since you only had one to start with a replacement of one wouldn't be too bad right?? Heck, the sugar bowl would work for me and it is the right year. ;)

Good luck!

Search ebay "completed listings". That way you can see if others have been up for auction recently, how much they went for, did they go unbid on, etc. That will give you a better feel for whether $75 is worth it or not. It will also give you a feel for whether there have been others for sale or not. If these are rare, then $75 may be a steal. If there were several that went unbid on for $40, then you should wait for more to be listed.

Good luck!!

Well, if they came up a lot then it'd be easier to pass this time. I just searched "completed listings" for you and it doesn't look to me like there have been other 1976 Neil the Frog Canisters on for the past 15 days (doesn't go back all that far, unfortunately -- I think it used to go back farther?). Go for it if you'll regret it!

ETA: Looks like the PP had the same idea/advice! :)

I am pondering over the sugar bowl, lol. The one room in my house that has serious neglect in the way of frogs is my kitchen.....

If your DH says go for it then that would be adding more fuel to the fire. :)

It's just a frog. Who needs it? I'd say let it go....

How much joy did that frog container bring you? Stuff is stuff...

But, I'm not a collector, either. It's OK to grieve your loss, but I wouldn't get obsessive about an immediate replacement.

Put it on your gift wish list!

i didnt give in to temptation, i decided to wait and see if i can find it in an atiques/junk shop again. i just cant bring myself to spend that much.
