Despite the use of good moisturizers, my skin is so dry it feels tight and itchy. I can see some very fine flaking on my cheeks as well. Yuck! Short of a facial (who has the time?!), what can I do to get rid of the dry stuff and look a bit less haggard?

I had the same issues about a month ago, face very dry and flaky. I was in the process of ordering some baby stuff from Arbonne and the consultant gave me a great sample packet of face wash and face creams. I told her I'm a Target person myself and usually just go for what I can find there. Well I tried it and now my skin is so soft and healthy looking, I can't believe it!

I'm making my sample last because Arbonne isn't cheap but it does seem to work.

Hope that helps.

I make a paste of baking soda and warm water and use it as a gentle scrub to get rid of flakiness. While my skin is still damp I apply moisturizer-I find that Weleda Iris does a great job, when I feel like splurging I go for Dr Hauschka Day Cream. I've also been known to use the baby cream (Weleda Calendula) on my face with no ill effects-it's a bit heavier but doesn't make me break out.

p.s. I avoid washing my face with soap in the winter months.

I wash with Cetaphil while gently exfoliating with my washcloth and put DD's Aquaphor on my face at night. For some reason my eyebrows and chin get especially dry. (Whoever heard of dry eyebrows and what did I do to deserve them???) Aquaphor is too greasy for me to wear during the day when I go to work so I use some kind of Oil of Olay something-or-other during the day.

Cetaphil is a great cleanser. Not drying at all.

When my skin is really dry I put oil on it when I'm still wet from the shower (But baths are less drying I find), then pat (not rub) dry. Then if necessary I can use lotion. It helps tremendously to not use a superhot shower. THe hotter the water, the more drying it will be to your skin.

Good moisturizers I've found in order from most to least moisturizing are Aquaphor, eucerin, and aveeno for dry skin.
