I have several words that I love just because of how
they sound when said. I was just wondering if anyone
else did too!

Here are a few of mine:

*Sassafras
*Potpourri
*Swank
*Cinnamon

Edited to add 2 more words---

*Fabulous
*Pussywillow (watch the movie, 'Serial Mom' with Kathleen Turner)

Totally weird question, I know!

Bucaramanga.
It's a town in Colombia. We use it as a substitute for cursing.

Does non-English count?

I had to take some German in 8th grade (I took Spanish throughout high school) and I still remember thinking "der Bleistiftspitzer" (had to look up the spelling) was the funniest word ever ;) That's "pencil sharpener" by the way.

Actually, I remember three words from German...Bleistiftspitzer, Bücherschrank (bookcase), and Apfelsinensaft (orange juice) that I thought were amusing. I don't remember a whole lot more sadly, and boy, did I pick some practical ones to store away in my brain ;)

DH's former supervisor is German (plans on returning to Germany soon) and is a very funny guy. I wowed him with my German knowledge over dinner ;) He and his wife were cracking up that those are the words I remember ;) The guy has a nutty sense of humor fortunately!

My two favorites are French:

pamplemousse (grapefruit)

saucisson (sausage)

Four years of high school French, and that's about all I remember of it, too. I guess if I'm ever pressed to order breakfast en francaise, I'm all set.

I also love the sound of the words shampoo, falafel, and onomatopoeia (had to look up the spelling of that one!)

This thread reminds me of one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes cartoons:

Love the C&H!

Slightly OT, but did anyone, as a kid, ever repeat a word tens or hundreds of times until it seemed to have no meaning? Or was it only my friends?

ETA: I like another French word: crepuscule (dawn)

The pseudo-curse is hilarious.

I would like to play but my favourite sounding word might get me kicked out of here. Rhymes with NuckFut (just switch the N and F around). Seriously, it is a great word. And 'AssHat' too.
heehee.
Guess I need to get a life.

No, not just you! I do that *all* the time. It's funny and kind of annoying at the same time...as if I need any more incentive to lose my train of thought!

Some of my faves in English are cabinet, cerebellum and sternocleidomastoideus (yes, I was a gross anatomy nerd!).

DH loves limpiador parabrisas (Spanish for windshield wiper)

Fun thread! :)

Rhinoceros

Schenectady

Mango

Disenfranchised

And because Hobbes is the greatest tiger ever, Smock is pretty dang fun to say as well. I love C and H and have all of the books on my shelf!

After reading that C&H strip, I have been saying smock over & over and giggling too. :)

The one that used to hang me up like smock was dismiss. I could think about it until it just didn't sound right.

Me, too! As my mom always says, great minds think alike!

My other favorite is francobollo, Italian for postage stamp.

Great thread!

Lately for me, everything is "luscious", especially when referring to babies ("aren't his cheeks just LUSCIOUS!"). I am also fond of "lovely", and now DS has picked it up ("Mommy, wouldn't it be just LOVELY to play Candyland?") There is also a videogame series (The Curse of Monkey Island) where the main character, Guybrush Threepwood, has a silly curse word: "Papapeeshoo!" I love that word!

Anytime I think of a word too long and it gets weird, I think of that episode of Friends where Jon Lovitz was Monica's boss and he shows up to a food tasting all hopped up:

"Tartlets...tartlets...tartlets...the word's lost all meaning."

Sometimes I just can't get it out of my head. The "ll" has to be done just so.

Onomatopoeia is one of my favorites too! I was about to post before reading replies and realized I needed to check my spelling. ;) I say it all the time-- sometimes in place of a swear, sometimes when I am just feeling goofy. I usually follow it with BOOM, buzzzzzz, hisssssssssss. Thankkfully, DH gets this weird side of me. ;)

DH's late father loved the word solipsistic, so it always makes me think of him.

One of my good friends in college hated the word "moist". Of course, we tried to say it as often as possible. ;)

Not a word I get to use on an everyday basis. But we are in the middle of a geometry unit at school so I've been getting my fix! :)

Nicole,

My word that I say alot to the kids is Fabulous!
So, now my daughter says it all the time!

"Don't you love my hairbow? I look fabulous!"

"If we could go outside and ride bikes, that would be
fabulous!"

"Daddy, you look fabulous today!"

I think it's time for a new "house" word!! :)
What a fabulous idea!!

OMG! My Dad says that all the time.

But it's not just "fabulous", it's:

"FAAAAAAAAAAAbulous!" In the strangest concierge-sort-of accent :P

I love to say the word canoolde and the name Joaquin. I even toyed with the idea of naming my son Joaquin, but it doesn't go with our last name at all. :)
