Okay, so I went to Crate and Barrel yesterday to check out the silicone condiment boards (they're too small for Kaya's meals, but she loves having her "snacks" in them, and right now she's playing with a trickle of water from the bathtub and having a ball--I may have to pick up the other two colors, lol). I saw a couple of cutting boards--the jelli boards and the natural wood fiber laminate boards and both looked like they would be great (they won't be scratched up, they're bacterial resistant, they're dishwasher safe, etc.), but I couldn't decide which might be better or if it's just a matter of personal preference. For those of you who have either or both, what do you think?

It's quite a difference in price, but it may be worth it? Or maybe I should get both and use one for meats and the other for other things? Are there better (i.e. cheaper) places to get comparable things?

Any and all opinions would be welcome! Thanks!

IKEA has great prices on the Jelli boards. Their colors are usually limited, but they carry three different sizes that have held up just as well as ones we've gotten from Crate & Barrel and elsewhere.

I hadn't seen the natural wood fiber board before. It looks cool!

Thanks! DH likes the look of the wood fiber board better than the Jelli boards, so I'm going to go to CnB to pick up one now. I did do a search on wood fiber cutting boards and wasn't able to find anything else really.

FWIW, the guy who sharpens my knives says the plastic boards are brutal on knives. He highly recommends wood.

I've read that wood boards don't harbor as much bacteria as plastic/silicone boards b/c the wood "heals" itself. I've also heard that non-wood boards (particularly glass) are harder on knives like PP said.

Have you seen the new bamboo cutting boards out there? Costco had them a while back and they weren't that expensive.
