I wanted to share some pictures of the birthday cakes I made for DD's third birthday. The Blue's Clues cake was for her birthday at daycare on the actual date and the Hello Kitty one is for her party tomorrow. It was a lot of fun making them.

You did an incredible job. I wouldn't expect a cake from a bakery to turn out so well.

I'm sure Maya going to have a fantastic birthday with cakes like those!!!

Those are great cakes! Where did you get the idea/design from? How much experience do you have with fondant?

Happy Birthday Maya!

Thank you, you make me blush... It isn't perfect, but it sure felt very creative, and fun! BTW, I don't think I am good enought to start a business. But I sure hope that some of my friends would ask for my help with their kids birthday cakes. It was theraputic!

Thank you. A bakery just wouldn't put in the amount of hours that I did, because it wouldn't make sense financialy..

Well, you buy fondant at Michael's along with some gel food color. The Fondant is like playdough, very easy to work with.

I have a friend who is making such cakes professionally (her's are so much more amazing than mine...). She was supposed to help me with my cakes but she went into labor a few days earier than expected, so I did everything by myself. It was the first time I ever did this, you can see that the Hello Kitty cake is much better than the Blue's Clues. It is because I had more experience with the second cake...

I just printed some pictures off the web and copied them to the fondant, which is like playdough, but edible (barely).

I'm very, very impressed!!! Those look awesome! I've been looking into signing up for a cake decorating class, and you just added another point to the list of why to do it!!

I was wondering, how did the cakes taste with the fondant? I've never had a cake with it.

I think that fondant tastes sort of like candy corn. I've never bought the pre-made kind though.
I've made cakes with fondant just for show and cakes with whipped cream to eat.(PRE baby)
That's just me, though. I love the look and hate the taste.

And to the op, your cakes are ADORABLE! I love the Blues Clues. You've got me in a baking mood.
Awesome job!

The fondant tastes like crap. The good thing about it is that you don't have to eat it. Unlike frosting it is not "part of" the cake. You can peel it off and eat the cake. It is like hard playdough. Under the fondant I made a really amazing and rich chocolate cake that everyone enjoyed. Of course, the kids enjoyed the fondant too...
