Has a level II ultrasound yesterday that indicated I may be heading towards placenta previa, nothing certain, but something to watch. Has anyone here had any experience with this. I can see thtough the internet that there are all kinds of varying degrees of this.

Susan, I had a marginal placenta previa when I was pregnant with DD #2. The placenta got very, very close to the cervix but didn't actually cover the cervix. They monitored it with regular ultrasounds and by the 36th week it had moved far enough away so I could have a vaginal delivery.

I hope the same happens for you!

Thanks Heidi, I am reading all these horror stories of bleeding, bed rest and too early deliveries that are freaking me out. Sometimes the internet is little too much info, KWIM?

The exact same thing as happened to Heidi happened to my sister. She had one time of bleeding that sent her to the hospital for an u/s but they determined it to be a minor incident. She did have an u/s every ob visit just to monitor the progress of the placentas migration away from her cervix. She had a very uneventful delivery.

I had a marginal previa, too. Usually the placenta will move up and out of the way as your pregnanct progresses. Try not to worry yet!

This is exactly what happened to me also. Try not to worry just yet. It's pretty common for it to resolve.

Susan, my experience was exactly like Heidi's. I had a low lying placenta and from week 36 on had an ultrasound every week to see if it would move up, and it did. I know it's so hard not to worry, but I bet things will be fine!

I had a similar experience. A slight bleeding episode showed marginal previa and they just kept an eye on it. It had moved totally out of the way by about 28 weeks, but my bugger of a baby decided to stay frank breech, so I ended up with a c/s anyway!

Had a marginal degree of this for a short time, but it resolved itself, as my ob predicted it would.

Also had a friend who had it recently, and hers is now resolved also.

It seems it's not uncommon.

ETA: I was told I might see spotting, but never did.

I haven't had any experience with it, but have read that it will usually remedy itself. The placenta doesn't "move", but as your uterus grows it appears to move further from the cervix.

According to this babycenter page, only about 10% of women who have it at a 2nd trimester ultrasound will end up having it at full-term. http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/pregcomplications/830.html.

Odds are that it'll work out fine.
