View Full Version : 2 syllable boy name and nickname?

We are so stuck on a boy name! We didn't agree on DS until a day or two before he came and he was 4 days late :). But, what I think we like a lot is that DS is 2 syllables and our potential nickname, Andy, is 2 syllables. Turns out our choice for a girl name has those same properties. But, now I'm stuck finding another boy name. Everything I think of has a 1 syllable nickname. Any suggestions?

Daniel / Danny? Boy, this is a toughie! I'll keep thinking.

DH has 6 nephews and I have 2 and Daniel is used and I just don't want a repeat that close in the family. Is that weird or normal? But, I have often come up with Daniel on my own until I remember we have one!

How about Richard and Ricky? William and Billy? Robert and Bobby? Leonard and Lenny? or Leo?

That's not bad. I'll have to add that to my list.

Oh, I like Martin/Marty.

I guess I'm also trying to stay away from the "little boy" names. I don't want a 30 year old named Tommy. It just doesn't work for me. But, Marty is nice.

Oh, but 30 year old Tommys (with rare exception) grow up to be Toms or they use Thomas. And Tommy is very cute for a little boy.

does he have to have a nickname? dylan is two syllables and doesn't really have a nickname. he is just dylan.

i like william/liam a lot, as PP suggested!

Hopefully. I do know a 50 some year old Jimmy and a 60 something Danny.

Actually, Tom brings up a whole different problem. Mixing a midwesterner with a Bostonian and tring to not offend with accents. DH (from Boston) hates how we in MI say Tom, Bob, Aaron, Eric, and pretty much any short vowel sound.

Really, we'd just be better off having a girl!

That's true. Hadn't thought of that. That should add to the list!

I think you can just add "y" to a lot of nicknames.

Michael/Mikey
Vincent/Vinny
Willian/Billy (or Willy, or Liam)
Robert/Bobby or Robbie
Richard/Richie

etc.
