When we had the twins, a good friend of ours came out from Chicago (leaving his pregnant DW and DD behind) for a few days to help us. Unfortunately, we can't return the favor - and since they have lots of family around, not even sure that's really what they would need or want. But I AM thinking of trying to get some meals delivered to them. Anyone have some thoughts on a caterer or another service in the far northern Chicago/Evanston area that would be appropriate?

TIA!

Those meal assembly places like "super suppers" and "pass your plate" have a service where they assemble the meals for you, and some might even deliver them! I'd check them out if you want to do a bunch of meals.

This site lists the various places where you can buy and assemble meals for a month. Several also let you pay a little more and someone at there will pre-assemble everything for you (so all she'd have to do is pick it up - or have DH get it!):

Some of the meal preparation companies will even waive the prep charge if the meals are for a new mother - can't hurt to ask :)

Great thought, but of course I omitted a critical piece of info - I'm in Maine. :) So I can't be involved in any of the prep or delivery outside of a phone call.

Hmmm, knowing how many good restaurants there are up there that delivery, or at least offer carry-out, I think I would probably get some gift certificates to local restaurants instead of doing a service or a caterer.

Do you know what kind of food they like? There's a good new pan-asian place called Dozika. There's Potbelly for sandwiches (they deliver for sure), Olive Mountain for middle eastern food, lots of pizza choices (gino's east, lou malnoti's, edwardo's), Pete Miller's for steak, and Wolfgang Puck's too.

Chicago has a restaurant delivery service called Dining In (www.diningin.com), and if you put in the address on their website, it will tell you the restaurant choices. It can take a LONG time to get your food, though, which is the drawback of using the service.

I'll keep thinking...

We used to live in Evanston--Lucky Platter is an awesome restaurant, it's on Main Street and they do carry-out and make good home-cooked style meals (reasonably priced)--also is a good place to take babies.... Other reasonably priced places with good food: Dave's Italian Kitchen, a Greek place on corner of Main and Chicago--can't think of the name!!! Sorry! The Firehouse Grill is All-American food--on Sherman.

I forgot about this place:

They do not have an actual restaurant, they only do delivery, but I think they are located pretty close to the area you mentioned. The food was ok when I had it some years ago. I think a friend of mine orders pretty regularly.

Also, here is another good Italian place on the North side:

Their pasta is homemade and they do carryouts.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I'll poke around on-line for these places! You're the best. :)
