I'm not worried about Ds doing anything to it, but rather are they some type of hazard that I don't know about?

Our room and Ds' room get very cold at night. The thermostat would have to be set way up in the 80's before these two rooms would be warm, so I was thinking about getting a space heater for each one. I remember the old one my mom had when I was a kid and it was heinous. Then I happened to see one that looked much safer, almost like an audio speaker. I am not worried about my son intentially doing anything b/c he's very cautious.

We have the Vornado in both the boys' rooms and we haven't had any problems at all with them. They are cool to touch, don't have glowing parts and shut off when tipped.

We have the electric ones that have oil inside but you never have to refill it. They generate a nice low heat that you can leave on all day if need be (which we need to). They look like old fashioned radiators. We are very careful about leaving the one in DS's room in the middle of the room 1) b/c it gets the heat everywhere and 2) it isn't touching anything. We taught DS what hot is and the sign and he is not allowed to touch it. Although one thing I love about these is that they don't burn to the touch you can just tell they are hot. Long answer I know, but I've been stuck at home alone with the baby for too long and need to get out more :D

Absolutely! Another vote for this Vornado. We got one from Homeandbeyond:

And I love that it has a digital control for the temperature. Anyway, we ordered one and they got it to us VERY quick plus a 10% off coupon for our next order. So we got a second one for us at night. :)

I don't know what kind of heat you have, but we have forced air and were able to close enough of the registers in the warmer rooms to force more heat into DS's room. The warmer ones are on the south side of the house and get sun, even in the winter. DS's is over the garage and faces east. But, the house did stablize pretty well.

AThat is what we have, but it just won't do it. The morons who designed our house have his register in a really bad place where the flow is blocked by his closet (hard to explain) so essentially it's the last one on the loop and our house is not that big that it has so many to close.
