For those of you that don't know my IL's are T.V. addicts the T.V. is ALWAYS on! Even when no one is in the room or watching it. This is only a problem since DD spends four days a week there.

But imagine IL's face when the T.V. keeps turning off at random. They'd probably call a technician to come out on an emergency basis, lol!

I wonder if there was some way I could rig it so that the T.V. would be turned off even when I am not there, THAT would be awesome.

Oh, how I wish my daughter didn't watch so much T.V. during the day.

I can SO relate. And unfortunately, my SAHD DH is carrying on the same pattern. All of my nagging, pleading, reasoning, presenting research and talking about it have been to no avail. I have contemplated cancelling the cable. I have contemplated disconnecting the cable from the back of the TV. I wish I knew the answer.
I've just had to let go of it or else I would be nuts.
Anyway, no advice. Just sympathy.

That product is too funny, I wonder if it really works? I hate TV as background noise, it makes me nuts.

Christy,

Do we have the same IL's? :) I have never been to their house when the TV is off. They do not watch ds, but it is so annoying when we go over to visit. Even worse, when they come to our house FIL will actually seek out the remote (yes, I try to hide it). Plus he wathces it on deaf mode, and I don't mean closed captioning. His hearing is not that great, so he turns the volume way up and I have to keep turning the volume down. I get so annoyed.

Just give it to your daughter and let her "play" with it while at your IL's. Tell your IL's its her new favorite toy. It will probably take them a little while to figure out that it is shutting off their TV.

I've heard they work pretty well. I've read about people using them when they go out to restaurants that have TV playing and visible from every angle.

Sounds like fun :) LOL!!

let us know if you get one! I think you should rig up a device for the ILs house ;)

I had a co-worker who got tired of his teenaged boys staying up late on the computer. So, he plugged the router into a timer in the basement. It would take a bit more trickery, but a timer that just cuts the power to the TV would shut it off when you're not there!

The best part with the co-worker was that he told his kids that it was a program on the computer, so they never looked in the basement.

Ooooh, that it just what I need. DH has the TV running from the minute he gets up to the minute he falls asleep. It drives me crazy and as he has heard me say several times, it's the biggest thing I can't stand about him!

I find the background noise of the TV to be very overstimulating, it drives me NUTS!!! I think that's why the house always seems to peaceful when he's not home.
