As in hop like a bunny using 2 feet or jumping off a curb using 2 feet together? DD's attempts at jumping are really cute, but uncoordinated. :) It just seems like it's such a long way off from now.

A little before 2, full out two legged jumping kicked in for Megan. Now at 2 3/4 she is working on hopping on one leg but it's hard work for her, although painfully cute :)

I think it varies. My nephew, who is the same age as my son plus a few weeks, was a major jumper (and screamer) in his crib early so he was jumping like a crazy man at 18 months.

My son didn't really get into serious two foot jumping until he was over two.

Here is a development sequence I looked up. DS is almost 29 months and can't get off the ground yet (thought he tries!) This shows 2-3 years to jump off a step and 3-4 years to jump up and down, so I guess I shouldn't worry yet.

I've got the best jumper in our play group ;) He started at 18 mo, which is probably way earlier than most. He jumps off everything (and I mean everything from steps to chairs to pews at church!) Charming, huh?

I wouldn't worry too much. I think it is one of those things that every kid does at a different age. Your dd is just a couple months younger than my ds, and most kids his age cannot jump like him. (I think that a 5 year old has been teaching him jumping tricks, lol.

DS is 2 1/2 and can't jump or hop yet. His PT has been working on it with him but he's either not getting it or not interested in trying.

DS loves to jump and has gotten both feet off the ground since about 20 months or so. Now, he does a 90 deg turn in mid air as he jumps :).

Between 2 and 2.5 is pretty typical for jumping with two feet together. To introduce the idea it is generally easier to teach them to jump down from a step or curb (holding your hands).

My newly 2 y.o. tries but can't get ground clearance yet ;) He stoops down but then just gets up onto his tiptoes ;)

Finn was jumping late last spring, early summer so I would say at about 18 months. (He has also been a BIG screamer too, Allison, so I wonder if there is a connection). In about the last month or so he's been trying to hop. His efforts are hilarious to watch.

Nathan was well before 18mo he could hop off the ground. From the time he could he could pull up in his crib he has been a jumper. He always loved his johnny jumper too. He has a mini tramp. that he is on everyday.

Thanks for posting this link. I can already see where I will be spending some time reading this weekend.

BTW, my 27.5 month old doesn't get his feet off the ground yet either, at least not that I have ever noticed. I'm not sure that I have ever really tried this with him. This makes me think of my mom telling a story about how worried she was that I wasn't skipping when it was time for me to go to kindergarten. I was a little under five when I started. Apparently, she practiced and practiced with me until I could do it. The things we worry about... ;)

Caroline --

Charlie has been jumping (and he has to say "jup!" while he is doing it) for a couple of months now -- since about 20 months. He got interested in the idea from us swinging him by his arms while we are walking with him between us ("one two three jump!" and he would pick his feet up and fly for a yard or so -- I know it isn't good for his elbows, but he loves it so). Then he would jump holding my hands while standing stationary in front of me. Then he figured out that he could jump off of those jumbo carbord blocks (while holding my hands).

He will jump on his own now ("jup! jup! jup!"), but he maybe gets an inch of clearance. And he won't jump off steps (or blocks) without holding someone's hand.

Yeah, I think Kaylin's been interested in jumping for a long time now, but she just physically can't do it yet. She also loves the swinging while walking in between DH and me. I try to limit it, not becuase I'm worried about elbows, but becuase it's tiring for me! :)

Okay, I hope she figures out how to jump for her own sake. She always wants to jump! :)
