View Full Version : How do you wipe your DCs butt after #2 on the potty? May be TMI for some!

Sorry to be so blunt, but how do you do it? I’m *so* proud of DD for learning to go on the potty after quite some time of asking for a diaper to poop in, and now I'm making a mess of it! I must have missed some yesterday and she’s a little red today. Diapering was easy compared to this. Is there a trick I'm missing? We've figured out that wipes work better than toilet paper, but how do you get the butt hole area clean?

Have her bend over so you can get at all the skin. That's what I do for standing diaper changes.

First, we use toddler wipes, the kind that can be flushed. We keep the little box in the bathroom. Much better cleaning ability than with dry toilet paper.

Second, we taught ds to squat down which allows us to get better access, so he automatically does that now. I imagine, though, that it's more complicated with a girl because I do a back-to-front wipe and you have to be more careful with girls.

There have been a few times when he's had a particularly messy poop and the wipe keeps coming out dirty, so I've had him lie down like a baby (feels very bizarre wiping a 5yo boy this way!) so I can see what I'm doing. He's also old enough now to tell me if I didn't do a good enough job - he'll come back later and tell me it's itchy! :o

We had Matt bend over the side of the bathtub.

my ds has a step stool that he puts his feet up on to "brace" himself as he leans forward. he then holds on to my leg and i wipe with paper and then to make sure i didnt leave anything behind i use a kandoo :)

Toddler wipes...ingenious idea! Why can't I think of things like this to invent? Also, I think squatting would be worth a try. Asking her to bend over gets most but not all, so squatting would help. Thanks for the tips.

DD does what we call the "elephant walk". She puts her butt in the air, and her hands on the ground. It works really well. If we're in a public bathroom, she puts her hands on my feet.

You may win the award for most creative :) I think this too would appeal to DDs silly side....I'll give it a try later.

:) It's pretty easy - I just say "can you do the elephant walk?" and she's in position.

The Cottonelle refills are cheaper and fit in the Kandoo box. :)

Me either, and the price is ridiculous in comparison. It's a little squish to get them in there at first, but it really does work! :)

I have DS bend over holding onto my leg. If I am not happy with the result or if it was a messy poop, I'll pick him up and wash him off in the sink or even bathtub. I don't think we have to do it more than once a week if that often though.
