Okay, I was on MWS and read a post from last month and thought I hadn't seen one here in a little while. Plus, Kaya just did something that totally made me crack up.

She walked into the bedroom wearing her sleepsack (I swear she looks like a mermaid) and walked over to my bedstand. She swiped something that looked like my thermometer, but put it behind her back before I could see.

[mom] "What do you have there?"
[Kaya] Smile
[mom] "Do you have my thermometer?"
[Kaya] Smile...No.

Kaya turned around and walked towards the door.

[mom] "Where's Daddy?"

Kaya opens the bathroom door, mumbles something, closes the door, looks at me and says, "Daddy's in the potty."

She continues to waddle in with her arms to the side and I say, "Is that mommy's thermometer?"

She quickly puts her hands behind her back and smiles, "No."

She wanders towards me while Daddy comes out and I tell him the story, we both laugh, and she quickly goes to the bedstand, swipes my alarm clock and holds that behind her back as well.

[dad] "Hey, Little Thief." He swipes the thermometer from behind her back and she looks quickly at her hands in horror because she's holding only the alarm clock. After teasing her with it, he gives it back and she immediately gives it to mommy.

Oh my gosh, my baby is a thief and a sneak! :)

What has your baby done this week?

Eileen, I was thinking the same thing yesterday about not seeing one of these treads recently, but couldn't come up with a cute story to kick it off with. Kaya's antics just crack me up so I am glad you started off.

After racking my brain a bit, I remembered something from earlier this week. DD was playing with her O-ball and I noticed she would actually try to throw it (as well as a 13 month old can throw) and then pick it up and throw it again. It was very cute to see the little wheels churning in her head as she was doing this.

mudder17
02-19-2006, 04:18 PM
That's so sweet! Kaya did not learn to throw until later, but as you say, it's so fun to see the little wheels churning when they are learning to do something new! Earlier this week, she actually caught a little football and then threw it back to me. Even though you had to throw it directly into her arms and warn her with a 1, 2, 3, it was still very cool to see her pull her arms around the ball. :)

Riley just did this today, and maybe it's only cute if hear the way he says it, but ...

He and DH went out this morning and did some grocery shopping (while I slept!). When they got home, I came down to help put the groceries away, and Riley looked at me and said, "Unagi!" I asked DH, "Did he just say 'unagi'?" and Riley said, "I dip it! Unagi!"

Apparently they got hungry while out, so DH grabbed some sushi and Riley stole his piece of nigiri unagi and ate it with soy sauce.

That is so cute! I love sushi, though I haven't introduced it to Kaya yet. However, she does love Smoked Salmon (TJ's) so it's probably just a matter of time. :)

We were visiting DH's Brother and Future SIL this weekend along w/ the rest of the family. Several several times DS had a conversation like this:

DS: "Does Uncle Brian have a penis?"
Me: Yes
DS: "Does Pop-Pop have a penis?"
Me: Yes
DS: "Does Grandma have a penis?"
Me: No, grandma does not have a penis

And on and on.......

This happened SEVERAL times over the long weekend we were there; resulted in numerous laughs!

these are all so cute :)

my older ds will be 4 tomorrow and we were going over how old everyone is. here is our conversation:
ds: how old will i be again
me: four
ds: how old will ---(ds #2)be
me: he will be two
ds: how old is augie(his dog)
me: he is 3
ds: fuzzy(cat) will be one
me: no fuzzy is old like mama
ds: oh yeah, she is an old girl
me: yep
ds: maybe when fuzzy gets older she will be able to pet herself.

my boys were walking around with no shirts on. my older ds had his hands in his pockets. younger ds didnt have any pockets on his pants and kept looking for them. i finally told him that he doesnt have pockets so he will have to put his fingers in his belly button. so he looks down and puts his two pointer fingers in his belly button and starts walking around.

After carrying Ishy close to a mile while he screamed (I had no other way of getting him home at that point), he trotted off down the sidewalk while I tried to unlock the door. So I led him into the convenience store he was next to, rather than trying to wrestle him up the stairs (heck, I was already exhausted). We wound up sitting on the floor, Ishy cuddled in my lap and refusing to move. The man working there brought me a packet of cookies to feed him (at my request — I paid for them before we left) and gave him a cup of milk from the milk jug they keep for people's coffee. After Ish devoured the cookies and milk, he felt calm enough to walk around a little.

Well, I thought he was just walking around. Actually, he headed straight behind the counter, where he stood grinning until he caught the eye of the man working there, and raised his arms to be picked up. The man picked him up and held him and talked to him for several minutes. Ish really didn't want to leave there — he was all for staying with his new friend.

Cute stories! :)

I took Ellie to see "Curious George" today, and when the credits were rolling, she turned to me and said, "I see it again!" I said, "maybe dada will take you to see it again!"

Last week Ellie was watching the Emeril show on the Food channel with DH (don't ask, it's become part of our bedtime ritual, LOL), and Emeril picked up an eggplant. Ellie said, "Emeril has a football!" We were ROFL at that--plus it gives you an idea how often we have eggplant in our house, since DH hates it. ;)

A few days before the whole Cheney shooting incident, Cheney was on t.v. for some interview. Charlie was playing in the livingroom at the time. When Cheney came on screen, Charlie turned to the t.v., pointing wildly, screaming "Cheney! Cheney!" Then he ran to the t.v., started patting it and said clear as day "Charlie loves Cheney!"

To this Democrat mommy that was a little shocking, to say the least. I have no idea how he even recognized him -- what exactly are they doing at daycare? :)

Since then Cheney has been on the news quite a lot, and he still gets excited to see him. He even drifted off to sleep the other night saying "love Cheney!"

Rory is big on trying to cut deals these days. Two recent examples:

Mommy: Do you want some more asaparagus?
Rory: How 'bout cookies? (grinning)
Mommy: Nope, no cookies. Would you like more asparagus?
Rory: Hmmm. (She actually says "Hmm.") How 'boooouuttttttt.....cookies??

Example 2:

Mommy (swooping down on Rory): Gimme kisses!!
Rory: Play peekaboo?
Mommy: But I want some kisses!
Rory (very seriously) First peekaboo, THEN kisses!!

Yep. Dead serious. She said that to me.

And one unrelated funny story...yesterday at a restaurant she was fascinated with the baseboard under our booth; she sould see from her chair that it was missing a piece. She kept asking about it and wanting to get down. Finally when we were finished eating, she got a closer look. She pointed to it and demanded:

"What's the sit-cheee-ation with this HERE?"

Jiminy crickets with this kid...she keeps us in stitches, that's for sure.

Jude

ETA...Just in case anyone's wondering, she got neither cookies nor peekaboo. And I never got my kisses. :(

Oh, yes...it'll come, Eileen! Rory's big on hollering at whim that "Mommy has a vulva! With hair! And Rory has a vulva! No hair!" That's loads of fun in crowds.

(Just as an aside, she has also taken to calling me "Big Mommy" lately, which is not going over well. She oughtta stick to vulvas...)

We LOVE eggplant here--although Kaya hasn't actually seen it very often because I usually have it cooked when she sees it. No luck in getting her to eat it yet. But I'm being patient since I didn't really care for eggplant until I was in high school or college.

So we woke up this morning (late--7:15!!!!!) and I hear on the monitor some shouting,

"Where's the blue water?! Where's the blue water...please!"

Kaya's had a blue and yellow munchkin straw cup in her crib for at least the last 6 months. So lately she's been insisting that even during her naps, she won't settle until she gets both her blue and yellow water. So yesterday we picked up a couple of the pink nalgene sippy cups (love them, btw) and we decided to test one in her crib, especially because she was really attached to it.

So before bed I told her, "You can have two cups in your crib. Which ones do you want?" She chose the yellow and the pink. She asked a couple times before bed for her blue one, but she was satisfied when we told her she chose the yellow and the pink one. I watched in the monitor as she settled to sleep and held on tightly to the pink cup. :)

So I guess she woke up this morning and first thing that occurred to her was that the "blue water" was missing. It was a funny way to wake up this morning. :D

My baby is still pretty little, so he doesn't have too many (I think they're cute, but don't know how they'd go over in the general public!).

But the other day I couldn't figure out what he was doing--he looked like he was trying to reel in a fish with a fishing rod! And then we went out and someone asked me if he was learning sign language because he looked like he was trying to sign...well, yes, but I don't think that's it...

It took my babysitter to point out that he was trying to clap! His hands weren't (aren't) meeting in the middle, he's swinging them in front of him with closed fists, and they go over each other instead of meeting (kind of like one potato, two potato), but he has a bear that plays Pat-A-Cake when you press its foot and he was trying to clap like the bear was! It was very cute--silly mommy, of course he's trying to clap.

Amelia is constantly making me laugh. Last week my MIL sent a v-day package for the girls that included shirts for them. Amelia got one with flowers embroidered on it and some beading. I swear I didn't say anything, just showed it to her and said, "look what Grandma sent." She took one look at it and said, "it's beeeautiful. Oh YESSSS!" It totally cracked me up.

A funny story from my 2.5 year old nephew (Ethan) . He was being goofy and my sister said, "Are you being funny?" DN says, "Ethan not funny. I wish." This is from the boy who is in speech therapy because he didn't really say anything until a few months ago. Now he won't stop talking. :)

Aw, poor Kaya missing her blue water!

It makes me think of my niece when she was two or three. She was very sick with a stomach bug, and rather than taking her to the emergency room they were (on the doctor's advice) giving her a teaspoon of Pedialyte and fruit syrup (from canned fruit) mixed 50-50, every 15 minutes.

She was very thirsty, and kept pleading, "I want some water in my Butter cup." (A cup with Buttercup from the Power Puff Girls on it.)

"No," they'd say, "you can't have water right now."

She thought this over, then said pitifully, "Okay, I want some water in my blue cup."

We put DD to bed on Friday night at 8:30pm as usual. I went downstairs and was checking my email for a bit. Around 9:30 (quite late) I started hearing noise from DD's room upstairs. I went to her door and was relieved to hear she wasn't crying. But what I heard was much more surprising!

"Again, again, again, again... Bounce!!!" *loud noise of toddler-flying-suplex onto crib mattress*

"Again, again, again... Bounce!!!" *THUMP*

I ran away in horror. ;) My quiet evening, ruined! Luckily when I checked on her again at 9:45, she was out cold.

I love all these stories!

We took a trip to the Virgin Islands last week and spent most days lounging by the pool. Jonathan walked around with one of us and waved at everyone. He came across a group of four adults sitting at one fo the tables. He pulled a chair out, then lifted his arms for his grandpa to pick him up. Then he got comfortable, placing one hand on the arm rest, and held forth to the group for three minutes, complete with gestures.

He also LOVED stepping on all the pool drain covers. He'd go all the way around and stomp on each one.

So glad we paid all that money for the enriching travel. . .

it's been fun reading the stories!

We were at a b-day part at the Little Gymn yesterday. Rowan got to expend a ton of energy there! He ate cake with lemonade. Not the pizza that was served for lunch!

Come dinner time the boy was hungry. He ate a nice size serving of rice with veggies. Dh was getting ready to dish up more food on his plate. All this is happening with Rowan keeping a close eye on the rice dish with lots in it.

He looked at dh ( with a panicky look on his face) and said, "Daaaaddy, you are not going to eat ALL the food, are you?"

Poor dh stopped serving himself...and we were in splits! It was so unexpected and funny. Rowan ate two more helpings after. :-)

I have more!

DD is very interested in knowing what things are called. She is at the stage of pointing at everything and asking "Dat?" DH relayed this story to me when I came home from work today- There is a large tree in one of the parking lot islands at daycare and for several days DD has been pointing at it and asking "Dat?" "Tree" says DH. Getting out of the car today in our drive, DD points at the tree in the yard and says "Tree". DH was just bursting with pride when he told me this.

DD has been walking over to where I have put a bag of cat litter and a bag of dog food and looking at the pictures of the animals. She will "pet" the picture of the cat and point at the outline of the dog. She even is patting her tummy trying to do the sign for dog. She hasn't quite figured out to pat her leg yet. I think I need to get some Signing Time dvds.

ribbit1019

On the way to work I was sitting in the back seat with DD. I look at DD and she has two fingers up (peace sign) and is looking at them perplexed. Then she looks up at me and says with great pride "Two!" DH showed her yesterday how to make two with her fingers, she was very proud that she could do it on her own!

DD has been riding her rocking horse (terrible FP plastic pony, but she loves it) it plays a song and after will gallop or whinny. When it gallops she gets off the horse and gallops next to it arms going and all and then gets back on when the horse finished.

DD: Mercan fag!

DD: Cafona fag!
Me: Yes, it's a California flag.
DD: Bear!
Me: Yes, there's a bear on the California flag.
DD: Red tar!
Me: Yes, there's a red star on the California flag.
DD: Where pig?
Me: There is no pig on the California flag.
DD: Where pig go?

She even calls it "pig flag".
