I am talking about the gift you send to the house after the baby is born. This is not the shower gift, or even the gift you would bring when you meet a baby for the first time.

My "go-to" gift used to be monogrammed baby towels from Red Envelope (when they sold the ones with blue or pink trim), but I don't like the new colors. So, I am looking for a new "go-to" gift. Any suggestions? And, any suggestions for twins??? Thanks!

I always give Comfort Silkies as a gift along with a Baby Einstein DVD. They are 2 things we wouldn't have made it without in the first months with Jackson.

a basket or diaper bag filled with essentials like shampoos and baby wash, a hooded towel and washcloth, a couple of pacifiers, a bottle or two, a couple of small toys, a bib, maybe a onesie or two and a receiving blanket. Everybody uses most of these things and its easy and can all be bought at the same place!!

I send all of my friends (who are breastfeeding) Lily Padz! I also think Robeez make great gifts!

We've sent Kate Spade brag books as well.

I always send a gift certificate for food that can be ordered out! I consider it something the parents will really need in the first few weeks - then I bring a baby gift when I visit.

If I'm mailing a baby gift, I usually go with Janie & Jack -- it's wrapped nicely and easy to return (esp. since there are so many brick & mortar stores).

LL Bean Boat and Tote bag with the name of the child on it. They also have cute lighter weight totes these days.

Please try to google David Fussenegger blankets. They are the softest, most darling baby blankets from Austria and are not really known yet here so they are very unique. I discovered them when Nick was 6 months old and I would have traded every other receiving blanket for one of these beauties. Also very reasoanable at $26 to $32 or so.

We do food a lot. Like the Zingerman's Midnight Feeding Box. If it's a girlfriend of mine, I usually do a care package filled with goodies for mom and baby like California Baby stuff for baby and some pampering products for mom - foot rub/cream, Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish, etc.

I always like to give a few zippered sleepers (fabric type depends on weather). New mom's always get button sleepers at their shower, but NEVER get zippered ones and I think they are invaluable when having to change baby's dipes a few times a night.

Hanna Andersson zippers if summer babe, Fleece zippered sleepers for colder months.

Robeez are a good idea.

I'll also *try* to make a dish, but that almost never happens.
