I was wondering what perks most retails companies have for employees - like Pottery Barn, Gymboree, IKEA, Target etc. I'll be moving over the summer and will probably want/need a part-time job until school starts for me again. In college I always liked to get jobs that had extra fringe benefits. Any suggestions?

My gf works for WS and I'm pretty sure the discount also appiles to Chambers and Hold Everything because they're owned by WS too.

Restoration Hardware offers 40% off to employees.

ETA: No minimum hours worked required. DH often worked 5 hours or less and still got the discount.

J gets a 25% Macy's Discount. And if we wait till Friends and Family we can combine them and get 25% off of the 25% off price. Especially great when combined with sales and clearence. Think a set of sheets, a duvet cover, a bed skirt and extra shams for less than $15 total. Since they carry so much, we can usually get a discount on what we would buy otherwise. We use it less than we did (don't really need anything anymore!) but it is handy. I just wish our Macy's sold baby shoes in the store.

I heard from a friend at Macy's that you can only use your Macy's card to get the discount? As in, you can't pay cash or whatever?

Anyway.

Nordstrom offers 20% off to all employees and 33% off to managers. Plus they have a special sale three times a year called "NPG" (Nordstrom Product Group) where you get 40% off all Nordstrom brands.

To those of you who mention the perks/savings. Do you need to work at least 50%? Is there a minimum amount of hours you need to put in per week/month? Do do you need to work there a certain length of time before getting the benefit?
I don't need health insurance-type benefits, but a discount on furniture/furnishings would be nice. :)

No minimum that I know of. DD's babysitter works at Pottery Barn. She said she worked a lot of hours during the holidays, but now only works 1 weekend day a week. 40% off at PB, PBK, and White something (another furniture type store).

When I worked at Express, it was 30% off for all non-seasonal employees and 40% off for managers, with an extra 15% discount days when new clothing lines came out. Employees only had to stay on the roster/payroll to get the discount - so some people only worked every other week and they still got the discount.

I think the "minimum" hours will depend on the specific manager you work for. If you make it clear at the beginning that you only want to work 1 shift a week, I'm sure some stores will still fit you in, given that you're good at sales. :)

ETA: to OP, I've heard Costco pays well, but do not offer big perks. So, instead of offering a discount on their items, they give employees 2 free Executive membership cards. The person I knew kept one for herself and gave one to a friend. And she kept the 2% cash back for both their purchases. If that makes sense.

Yeah, you have to use the Macy's card but you can make a payment at any register. So I most often make a purchase, deduct 25% in my head and then write them a check as payment on my account. I hate paying interest and I hate getting bills. So I just try to avoid it altogether. Or I would make a payment for like $200 the week I knew I would shop a lot so that it would be deducted from credit balance. Another nice thing is that Js discount gets bumped up 5%-10% for various reasons (making goals, anniversary date etc). It really adds up, especially since his anniversary falls right next to Friends and Family.

Children's Place has 40% employee discount on full-price and sale (I bought a ton on strechies and onesies for next to nothing and DD's easter dress for $2.80). TCP also bought the Disney Store and so now employees get 40% off there as well. I'm currently a per diem, which means I only ork when needed, for floor sets and whatnot, a day or two every month. Before my daughter was born I worked about 30+ hours a week, but I had women working anything from 4 hours a week up to full time.
