Did anyone see the interview Diedre Imus did on the View last week? She was talking about hazardous chemicals in household cleaning products. I thought it was alarming and I don't know what to do now to keep my house clean!!! Does anyone else use organic cleaners?

I did not see the interview and actually I didn't realize Diedre Imus was a person until I read your thread. :)

Anyway, I have a book by Karen Logan called Green House Green Planet (or something like that) and it shows you lots of recipes for making your own. I use mostly baking soda, vinegar, essential oils, club soda, and Dr. Bronner's.

That was a really good segment. I believe Imus has her own line of products (not sure where they're sold-check The View's website, they probably have info on them), and I've seen many environmentally sound cleaning products at Whole Foods and my local health food store.

Ditto that. You don't need anything fancy...they basically use similar ingredients anyway.

Castille soap, vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, etc. take care of pretty much anything.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I was just thinking about this the other day as I sprayed Tilex all over my bathroom. I know this is horrible horrible stuff, but it is the one harsh chemical I use in the house since I haven't been able to find a better alternative that is effective for the blue stuff that grows in dampness (is it mildew?). I have tried scrubbing and scrubbing with an abrasive cleanser and even tried bleach but nothing else gets it out. Even the Tilex won't get rid of all of it. Any suggestions?
TIA!

Just adding lemon juice to your list! DH HATES the smell of vinegar so I use lemon juice with baking soda whenever I can. The two together is the best toilet cleaner ever! Oh, salt is a great cleaner too!

FWIW, I've heard people swear by these products. Haven't tried them myself yet but have been meaning to!

"Clean House, Clean Planet" ;)

I also LOVE Method cleaning products, available at Target or Linens and Things. They are non-toxic, biodegradeable, etc. and affordable.
