Dd, 2 years old, had a light runny nose for 4 days. Suddenly, just before bed tonight, she started wailing, then broke into a high fever (I didn't take it, but it is high--I can feel her). Then she started breathing fast but also holding her breath until she had to breath--over and over. Does anyone know what this means?

I gave tylenol. Fever still seems to be rising, though.

I think we can wait to see doctor in morning.

Any experts on the fast breathing with breath holding?

Thanks.

Not an expert on fast breathing with breath holding-but you really should take her tempreature so you have an idea of what it is. Also-for a 2 year old with a high fever I would give Motrin-it lasts longer and tends to work faster than Tylenol. Retake her temperature about an hour after the Motrin-if it hasn't come down giver her Tylenol as well. They are different medicines and wok in different ways. It is safe for them to be given together.
Hope she feels better.
