No idea on the medical aspects, but wanted to send you lots of hugs!!!! I would have been a mess in your situation, and I'm sorry you had to deal with this on your own. It sounds like you did a great job, and I'm glad Luke's feeling better now-- I hope the surgery goes well and the healing is easy.

Holy cow - my heart is racing just reading that!

Big hugs to you, and get well vibes to your DS - and kudos for keeping it together during all of this, I'm impressed! :)

(((HUGS))) how scary!!!

A little boy from our church had one of these last fall. He was about Luke's age at the time.

Everything went fine. Sounds like you are in good hands. It should be fairly straight forward and he'll be back to himself and allowed to run around like a boy :) in about a week or so after the surgery.

Oh Kelli, no btdt experience, but I am sending you big ((HUGS))!! How scary!! I am glad that you were pleased with the doctors that you dealt with (and that the clinic doc sent you to the ER so quickly!). I hope your ds is feeling better today. Is he still in pain?? Good luck to you!!

Poor little guy and poor mama! What a frightening experience. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I'm glad you've found a good hospital who will be able to take care of this for your little one (hopefully quickly). Years ago a little boy I babysat for had the surgery. He was about 4 at the time. I watched him the next day and you wouldn't have known he had been through anything. He even wanted to climb a tree! I hope all goes well for Luke.

Hugs,

No personal experience with my toddler, but DH had one when he was young and it was a routine surgery and went well. I also had one when I was pregnant with Kaya, although it wasn't as bad as what you described with Luke, since I was able to wait until 1 month PP to get it fixed.

Sending your Lukey many healing hugs and prayers!

Kelli,

Wow!! What a scary situation! Sounds like you handled
it like an awesome mom! :)

FWIW, when I was little, I had 3 hernias. I also had to have
surgery to repair them. One was directly underneath my
belly button and then I had one on the right side and left side
of my bikini area.

Luke will never even remember that this happened!
Although, he probably won't forget the totally cool ambulance
ride! :)

Wow! That's quite a story! I am so sorry that he was in such pain. Poor baby.

It's great that you found good care.

Don't have any advice bc we haven't faced this particular challenge before. But just wanted to offer a hearty congratulations for having survived such a scary mama moment.

Congrats :)

Hey Kelli, hugs that you had to go through this! While I don't have any experience with a child having a hernia, I have no doubt it was very painful and scary for your son. Way to go having calm under pressure.

When my DH had his hernia (umbilical) repaired, he was released the same day as the surgery. It was a very nice & easy recovery. I have no idea if it's similar (so take our experience for what it's worth), but the pain relief was immediate.

FWIW, there is no such thing as overreacting when it comes to a child. Because of their inferior communication skills, you have to take every step necessary to understand & treat health issues when they arrive.

Thank you, everyone, for sending your thoughts my way. Our lives have been so busy lately, that it just kind of feels like this is "one more thing", you know? It's overwhelming and scary, but I'm so grateful that this is what it turned out to be, and not anything more serious. We have time to research doctors, check out the hospital, and the like. I do like planning... :)

So seriously, thank you again for the support. It's so nice to be able to unload troubles here and get some feedback.
