View Full Version : Dental work during 3rd trimester?

I chipped a tooth this weekend, and unfortunately it's the tooth where I had a root canal 2 months ago, but hadn't had a cap put on it yet. So I'm extra worried about the integrity of the tooth...

My dentist's office isn't open on the weekends and I've already tried to call twice but it was busy this morning (usually tough to get through on a Monday anyways) but a friend told me they probably won't do dental work on during my 3rd trimester anyways (I'm 33 weeks). Anyone else experience this? I'd hate to spend the money to go into the office (no dental insurance) only to find out that I have to go back in 2 months and they can't do anything for me.

TIA!
Erin

Any of the offices I worked in did dental work in the 3rd trimester. It would be better to have it taken care of now istead of having it cause you more problems at 39 or 40 weeks. I'd call.
(fyi I was a hygienist for 16yrs.)

Talk to them first, if you don't want to spend the $$, but I had a filling at around 36 weeks with DS2. They didn't want to do a root canal because they need x-rays for that, but would have if necessary. Since you have already had the RC, my guess is they would just do a crown prep (grinding down the tooth) and a temporary crown and then have you come back later for the final crown.

Thanks everyone. I finally got through to the dentist's office this morning and explained the situation, and the receptionist said she'd call back when she talked to the dentist. So hopefully they can do something to fix it. I appreciate the feedback!

To clarify, I don't mind spending the money to get it fixed, but I hate to spend the money to have an office visit, only to be told I have to wait until the summer.
