Has anyone had them come to your home for an est.? Is it worth it?

My friend called Empire for window treatments and was quite happy with the speed and the results. I do think it's a bit pricey, though, but it's FAST which may make it worth it.

Heh, heh, that's exactly what I was going to say! I remember that stupid song from when I was growing up, so...30 years ago? Was it based in Chicago? But I don't remember the 1-800 part when I was growing up.

We had them come to our family business for an estimate, and they were really spendy. We found out from a friend (after we had told them "no thanks") that they want to be the #1 company for carpet sales and will do almost anything to get business. If you can get a less expensive quote from somewhere else and call them back to say you have someone who'll do it for $$ instead of $$$$, then they'll be more competitive and maybe you'll get a good deal.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes - we need to get the stairs in our house recarpeted soon!

Yep - WGN and WFLD would run their adds all the time - no 1-800. I remember wondering what would happen when they (gasp) divided the Chicagoland area codes up and everyone was no longer 312.

My mom called them to give her a quote on carpeting for her second floor. They had just bought their house a few months before and needed to replace some of the carpet. The guy quoted her almost $4000 for 1150 sq ft of carpeting. Told her she wouldn't be able to find that carpet elsewhere, it's been discontinued, etc (she was trying to match the carpet downstairs -- the people they bought the house from replaced only the first floor).

Anyways, she and I thought that was a bit high (I was there when the guy came) so we decided to go to a couple local carpet places. We found the same exact carpet (same brand and "model"!) at a local place for $1400 installed! Yes, it took a couple days longer to come in, but it was worth it to save $2500! Empire would have come on the second day (1 day processing time, then next day install after that) and the local place took 5 days.

we have not done carpet with them as we had them do a new tub surround. ugh, they broke pipes in our walls and made a huge mess. what was to be a one day project turned into a one week project and WE had to hire a plumber to fix the pipes. we were not happy at all and will never use them for anything ever again.

my sister had them do her carpet years ago and they had major issues with them also. they had to come back several time and fix things. they were not happy with they at all either.

do you have a luna carpets by you, i have heard rave reviews about them from a few friends.

LOL, me too! I haven't lived in Chicago for 10 years and I still remember that darn song! Whomever created that ad campaign better have been paid some good $$$ - seems they did their job well!
