Need help locating an artist.

Hi all,

I figured if anyone could give me any ideas where to start you ladies could! I am trying to find out the name of an artist that painted a picture my father wants to locate. Here is the only info I have:

The signature appears to be "TSO '91." The subject matter appears to be maybe an Aztec Indian village. three people in the picture, two walking, one sitting on a porch of a hut. There is an animal in the picture, maybe a mule or burro. The scene is set in the mountains, and has lots of warm earth tones.

I think "tso" is their last name. I have found a few artists but I keep getting dead ends.

Sounds like a good library research question, I know there are a lot of reference books for identifying artists marks and signatures. This site is a good guide to the best books and web sites for researching art and artists:

My FIL is a dealer of Indian art and jewelry and when I sent him your description, this is what he said:

There is a Navajo artist named Justin Tso. I would like to see a photo of the painting to see if the style/subject matter have any match.

Would you be able to post a photo of the picture or is that the problem?
