Hi,
I bathe DS in a snugtub (inflatable type). Bathtime was once enjoyable, but now it is so rough on me! The whole time I am blocking him from trying to get his hands on the hair-trap (yuk!). I had no idea a baby his age could be so strong!!! I've even removed it while bathing him, but he still goes after the drain. I am considering buying one of those ring seats that has the suction cups to help keep him still. Is that my only option? Any other suggestions?

You've got lots of toys for him to play with, I assume (dumb question, I know, but you didn't mention it)? At that age Payton was fascinated by a few bath toys, and we rotate them when he starts to get bored. Cups full of water have been our constant regardless of the other rotations-- we fill 'em up, he dumps 'em out. Now that he's gotten better at it, he scoops up bathwater for himself before dumping it. It might just be time to find something more fascinating than the drain?

Oh, yeah! We've got the cups, and some rings, and some Sassy brand bath toys that look like little flying saucers. He plays with them for a few minutes, but he knows what he really wants. I've tried everything to distract him!

Okay, can you get him a "toy" drain? Basically get a second one that's just for him to play with? This is assuming that you don't have sharp edges on the drain trap. It might be just the thing to distract him from the real thing.

I used a snugtub for Jillian and it just became to miserable for me, I bought a ring seat and bathtime is now enjoyable again, she sits in her seat and plays with her toys but what she like the most is I give her the washcloth and she splashes water like crazy.

Is the drain on the Snugtub? I'm just thinking that maybe it's a sign that he is ready to do without it?

We haven't used a baby tub or sponge pad since about 9 months - just straight into the big tub. Maybe you could let him play with the drain to get it out of his system. Once the novelty wears off he won't bother it?

One last suggestion is just cut way back on baths until this passes. Babies don't usually need to bathe everyday. We did for a while and ended up with horribly dry skin. Now 1-2 time a week is plenty (unless very dirty of course).

DS was out of his baby bathtub around 8 months - we didn't bring it with us when we moved across country, and he loved the big tub. He's on to showers with Daddy now, with the occasional bath when he's been extra well-behaved.
