I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to be able to lose the last 5-10 pounds necessary in order to fit into my pre-pregnancy shorts before it hits 90 degrees here. So I am looking for a few pairs of shorts that I can wear in the meantime. Everything I am finding has pockets on the sides that kind of gap out making me look wider than I really am. I remember reading or hearing something, I think on What Not to Wear, about avoiding pockets anyway for that very reason. I did try some on at Lands End but they were very high waisted and I felt like an old lady in them.

Does anyone have some nice shorts that look good (not super short but not bermuda length either)?

i just bought a bunch of shorts today at rei (their anniversary sale started today - b&m and online)

these have been my favorite shorts for a long time. even though they have pockets they are designed quite well so that they don't stick out on the sides... something i was afraid would happen when they changed the design a few years ago (the pockets used to be right on the front). looking at the online picture they really don't look that great.

i tried these on a whim today and they look way better on than on the hanger. these are a little nicer looking (less outdoorsy) and again the pockets don't stick out.

if nothing else... you've gotta love the elastic :)

I just came from REI and I was also loving their Sahara shorts. The pockets are set lower on the leg, so they lay down flat - it's the "slash" style pockets higher up on the hips that tend to bunch up and make the hips look wider. I thought these were very comfortable and flattering - and on sale for $25.

They also have their sport shorts on sale (all nylon so they dry quickly) and I thought those were also a flattering fit, but a little more casual look. $17 on sale. Matching quick-dry (lightweight nylon polyester) t-shirts are $15. Perfect for hanging out in the yard with DS while he plays in the wading pool.

I was loving the REI sale today in case you can't tell. :)

If you live near an outlet mall, both Geoffrey Beene and Dockers outlets have flattering shorts (neither was more than $25). The pockets lay flat and they aren't too short.

Just got some cute Dockers at Costco for around $17.00 a pop. Good length and comfy too!
