A quick update. The power of the BBB pulls through once again. :) Thank you to everyone for your positive thoughts and prayers she pulled through the surgery very well. Much to our surprise she was discharged this afternoon. Her carotid artery was 90% blocked and the surgery was pushed back a couple of hours and then took an hour longer to do, but even with those delays she is doing well enough that they are letting her go home. Thank you so much!!!!

Christy

---------------------------------
My grandmother is 85 as of May 10th. Yesterday mid-day my dad called to see if we could come over to the house and bring cake and ice cream. My grandfather answered and told him not to come up since she was in the hospital.

On Monday she had a stroke and has been in the hospital since. My grandfather did not call my father. My dad is beyond hurt that his father didn't call him to let him know that she was sick. Apparently my grandfather thought she would be coming home very quickly, obviously this is not the case. I can't fathon why he didn't call other than age setting in (he will be 85 in July).

Tomorrow at 2pm they are operating on one of her arteries to clear the blockage. I have second hand info and my mom is not so medically savvy so I am not sure of the specifics. I do remember that she had this done 10 years ago and the surgeon said it was a rough surgery. I am hoping that there have been advancements in this medicine in the last 10 years that will avoid any complications, please keep her in your thoughts!

I know there are lots of requests floating around, I appreciate any good vibes.

Oh Christy, I am so sorry!

Try to be patient with your grandfather. My friend just recently went through this with her parents. Her mother and father refused to call an ambulance even though her father was showing clear signs of a stroke, and they should have known better -- her father is a doctor, her mother a nurse. It is really hard to know how you will react in such a sad and stressful situation, and then you have the age factor thrown in. I will be thinking of you and your family.

Christy, I'll be thinking of you and your family. FWIW, a few years ago, my mom had to be hospitalized in the middle of the night, and was incredibly ill, and my dad didn't call me or my sister to tell us. They "didn't want to worry us," but really I think they were in denial about how serious it really was. It may be your grandfather's using some denial to cope with it - if he doesn't tell anyone, then maybe it's not true, KWIM? I'm sure your dad is hurt, but go easy on your grandfather.
