I bought this cute dress yesterday. It's unlined. Maybe it's supposed to be a top, but I'm short and it hits me right above the knee so I want to wear it as a dress. What should I wear underneath? I remember my mom had this slips with a lace trim...please tell me there's a better option.

There are plain slips, with no trim, though they're really hard to find. I had to look high and low for one to wear under the dress I got married in (we eloped - I wore a short, white, linen dress). I finally found one at JC Penney that just had spaghetti straps and hit above the knee. I think it's some kind of silky polyester. Nothing fancy, very utilitarian, but it got the job done.

Do you have a pic of it, or a link to where we could see it? Do you expect that whatever you wear underneath will be visible ever? Is it thin, as in whatever you wear should be nude colored?

Slips have come a looong way since your mother's day. Check this out--it's slimming, if you want that kind of thing.

I'm sure there are other tank-style slips that would be non-clingy if you'd like something looser, or something cotton.

Thanks. I'll visit target and department stores. It's not completely sheer, just a little too thin for my comfort. I'll try to post a picture later.

ETA: here it is ( Does it look like a dress or shirt?) :

Looks like a dress to me, too.

Now I totally want this dress and a pair of toeless hose! It's a great fashion day on the BBB.

You've gotta tell us where you got this dress. It's very cute!
I hate HATE slips (we were forced to wear them so often growing up), but I know you can find one if you feel like you need it. Good luck!

It's either a dress or a maternity top. ;)

Love it!

I purchased it at Famous Barr which is a May department store for a mere $30!

Oh yeah, I bought these cute shoes and I had nothing to wear with them so I bought the dress.

Well, I'm nearly 5'8" and have a big butt, so I'd be rocking that with jeans. But on a petite girl, it would totally work as a dress. It's VERY cute. I would just wear nude undies, though. I'd skip the slip.

Your dress and shoes are so cool! You are going to look fabulous! I suggest Spanx as well. I LOVE my spanks! I wear them all the time. The best investment in undies yet! I like the spanks undies that are shorts length because I wear them w/everything. I suggest buying nude because it's the most flexible with your whole wardrobe.
