I read that yesterday AND heard it on the news. Very scary.

Interestingly, here, the protocol even post c/s is NO narcotic meds. All I got post-c/s was regular tylenol and motrin, taken together.

Thank you for posting this! I have codeine upstairs that was prescribed for my migraines while I nurse. I've come so close to taking it on several occasions.

I couldn't help but sob for that poor woman. :( I can't imagine.

wow, now that _is_ scary. i am one of those who gets super lethargic and constipated with codine the two times in my life i've taken it after surgery. in fact, the fear of the constipation post vag. delivery was what made me turn it down in the hospital after a pretty severe tear with DS and stick to the motrin/acetominophen. ugh, makes me sick just thinking about it. i'll have to ask about the liver metabolism the next time i'm in my md's office.

I do take it for migraines. It's one of the only things that works. I don't get any of those symptoms, but I'm freaked anyway.

The poor moms! :( I think I was given some sort of narcotic as pain killers after my delivery of Kaya, but I didn't follow their instructions for taking it and probably took less than half of what I was prescribed because it does give me constipation and I tend to get really really sleepy. I don't know if it means that I do or don't have the gene, but I'm going to be even more careful about taking prescribed narcotics from now on!

Egads! I was offered codeine in the hospital, probably because of my episiotomy! Glad I went for the Tylenol!

ETA: oops, sorry, it wasn't codeine, but another narcotic, Vicodin. I turned it down because the last time I took it I felt like my arms weren't 100% under my control. Didn't think that would be a good idea while learning to bf for the first time.

I was on a morphine drip after my c-section with Anna. Just for a day, and before my milk came in, but still, that is scary stuff.

Very scary! And the nurses at my hospital kept wondering why I didn't even bother to take the tylenol.
