Thanks everyone from the bottom of my heart :) It has been a stressful few weeks.

This was quite the surprise for us as with PCOS, I don't really cycle on my own typically. DS was conceived with injectables/IUI. I tried metformin (a drug that helps women with PCOS balance their insulin levels and therefore the rest of their hormone levels) when we were ttc him, but it didn't do anything for me after 2-3 months and at that point we were ready to move onto more aggressive means. I stayed on it but we added other meds and that did the trick.

We've been thinking about ttc #2 for a while, but DS is not ready to wean and going the injectables route would have meant weaning. I decided to go back on metformin while still nursing, and this time my new endocrinologist bumped up my dose over what it was last time.

I started meformin right before Christmas 05. Since I hadn't had a period yet as of March/April, it was time to induce one (I have to do that every 3 months to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer). I picked up my RX, and also a HPT, kind of laughing as I was only doing the HPT as a courtesy test really...something I *should* do but I hated even wasting the money.

Much to our surprise, it came up faintly +. DH, the practical guy he is didn't really believe a line is a line ;) (You'd think after our history with IF he'd be an expert but he was kind of in denial). I used two different early tests, both +. The odd thing is the next day, and I still can't explain this, the same two brands of early detection tests both came up negative, so I assumed it was a chemical pgcy. I was just happy I had apparently ovulated.

I waited and waited, no bleeding, so I retested a week later and got a dark +. My beta was over 2000 at that point. However, my progesterone was only 9.5, so again, I was very worried and figured there wasn't much of a chance. I asked for supplements and of course was told they wouldn't help but might put my mind at ease. My levels went up to over 20 right away and have stayed there. I'm gradually starting to wean off the progesterone supplements (I'm 11 weeks now).

My thanks to Tara (TaChapm) for her help and advice on supplementing with progesterone. It was so so helpful and calming to know it *can* work.

Then I had an early US, they thought they saw two sacs, both empty and that they were measuring only 5ish weeks. I was pretty sure I was about 5.5 weeks but they thought I was further based on my hcg levels (which shouldn't be used to date a pregnancy but they were sure trying to do that). I had to wait a week for repeat US at the hospital where there was better technology. I wasn't feeling optimistic after the progesterone issue, etc. However, much to my surprise there was a little bean, measuring 6.5 weeks with a little heartbeat, and no indication there was a 2nd sac. I had another US at 8.5 weeks that went fine, and I just heart the HB with a doppler the otehr day, so I'm finally trying to allow myself to believe. I still feel very much in denial, but very very happy.

It was much easier to concieve this little one as compared to DS, but the road to this point has been filled with so many ups and downs...the actual early part of pgcy has been much more stressful than it was with DS.

I'm so thankful to my friends here for their support, and I'm so thankful for this little one :) I never imagined in my life I'd ever experience a "surprise" pregnancy :)

Thanks again for your well-wishes and kind thoughts. They mean a lot!!!

How beautiful, Beth!!! I am a pcos/Metfomin girl and I'm so happy to hear that Met worked it's magic with you. The right dose is absolutely imperative for it to work, I'm glad your doctor upped it in December.

What a stressful beginning you have had for sure (if it's not one thing it's another, right?), but it sounds like you are all set for smooth sailing now.

Congratulations, I'm thrilled for you and your whole family!!!

Thanks again everyone!! You are all so sweet and your positive thoughts mean a lot to me.

I had my first appt today with my midwife (switching from an OB to a midwife run birth center for my care) and all was well. We heard a nice heartbeat and I'm about 11.5 weeks now. My uterus was the size she'd expect for a 14 week pg'cy but I have a very short torso and am very petite so she thought that all made sense :) I guess that's why I am getting a little baby belly already!

I really really appreciate all of the kind words from everyone. It has been a rough few weeks but I'm hoping for smoother sailing now (fingers crossed).
