Web hosting?

So, who hosts your website? I have some free web space since I work for a university, but would like to move our family website off of that. I'm looking for somewhere I can get enough bandwidth to have pictures, and a few movies and podcasts ETA and a blog. I'm a Mac user, and I have some html skills. I want to pick my domain name, and I don't want to break the bank (of course). Any suggestions?

I bought our domain names from godaddy.com and we host through doodlebabies.com, we also host my business site and DH's there. Stacy is very nice and answers questions very quickly, usually same day, but she just had a baby so that may have changed a bit recently. Though you'd have to "write" your own pages since it is just the space you are buying from the two of them. We use frontpage for our personal site since we have a PC.

You can buy/register your domain names from/on any website that offers it. That website does not have to host your domain name.

We got ours through Register.com, but that's many many years ago. They charge so much higher than everybody else with no added value whatsoever. Only because many people assume that you HAVE TO register through Register.com.

I chose and registered another domain name ("Takebackthanksgiving.com" for fun) through Godaddy.com last year. It's a lot cheaper. It really does not matter which website you register through. I did let Godaddy host that domain name for me as well, since it's easier this way.


For my own family website, Hostway.com is the company that I use. They are more expensive than the others, but I am too lazy. Customer service has always been good, and I can check my home e-mail address through their secure website when I am on the road. I guess I need to look into the pricing again...
