My sister got engaged last night-- yay!!! I'm SO excited. I want to do something for them for their engagement, but none of the usual suspects-- no monogrammed towels or tea sets ;). Help me brainstorm ideas!

well, depends on their age and how much stuff they already have, but here are couple of ideas:

picnic basket
subscription to Peet's coffee if they like coffee
nice wine glasses/wine
a quilt?

Manicure gift certificate(s)?

When you have a nice ring to show off you want your hands to be in tip top shape! Good hand lotions could be something to consider too. Some places have a bridal set of lotions etc.

If she'll do it there are some cool engagement type journals. I confess I got one, started it, and never finished it.

Toasting flutes for the wedding? Waterford makes(made?) wine and champagne versions. My brother and his wife are big wine drinkers so we got them the wine ones.

Have fun shopping! I love dilemnas like this.

I'm a big fan of giving 'activity' gifts -

Dance lessons, or wine tasting classes, or even a cooking class. One of the best classes I ever took was learning how to properly use kitchen knives.

Sounds dorky, but it's better than a cake platter from Bed Bath and Beyond. ;)

Congratulations!

Is Miss Abby going to be a Flower Girl?! ;)

ETA - Another cool gift is to 'buy' them a domain name so that they can post updates/pictures/etc to family and friends that can't join them, or live long distance. If you need help with this, LMK.

How about a basket with wine, a wedding planning book, and several Wedding Magazines? Also tell them to just enjoy being Engaged for a bit.

Congratulations to them!

Yes! She's very pleased. I handed her the phone when my sister called and told her that Tracy was going to have a wedding. She immediately said into the phone, "I have a new pocketbook that I'm going to bring to the wedding!" They chatted for a while and then Abby put down the phone and told me, "I'm going to be the flower girl because I'm the best one to do the flowers. I'm going to have a very beautiful dress." Today, she talked to my mom on the phone and said, "Tracy's going to have a wedding, did you know?" LOL! I think we're in for some great fun.

She's just the perfect age for it. I can't wait to see pics.

Did Tracy set a date? Are you MoH?

I am ever so patiently waiting for my Brother to pop the question to his girlfriend. He has the ring and everything. It takes every ounce of self control to not hound him about it. ;)

There used to be some Nambe "kissing" salt and pepper shakers. Nambe is very cool in my book. . . .

Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple,

I love one of my gifts, a Waterford ring holder.
